ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy rifle (3-10) capped off its team slate for the 2020-21 season with a sixth-place finish at the GARC Championship with a total score of 4,667 points. The Midshipmen finished with an air rifle score of 2,359 points, which was also sixth-best in the field, on Sunday morning.

"Again, we had a fairly solid day during the air rifle events," head coach
Mike Anti said. "We shot above our season average as a team and had some very good shooting from
Michael Zanti,
Gabriella Mayes and a personal high from
Deonte Hayes. Today also marked the last collegiate match for our seniors,
Torrance Kang,
Luke Knollinger and Logan Williams. All had a great day and we celebrated their four-year contribution to the team. They will be missed and will always be part of our family."

Michael Zanti (Jr., Norfolk, Va.) paced Navy in the discipline with a 594 for his eighth score of the season with at least 590 points.
Gabriella Mayes (Jr., Rio Rancho, N.M.) also surpassed the 590-point mark with her 591 on Sunday, which is her second-highest air rifle score of the season. In her final collegiate competition,
Torrance Kang (Sr., Columbia, Md.) fired a 588 for the Midshipmen while Navy's final two starters,
Laurel Kuhne (Jr., Everett, Pa.) and
Clarissa Layland (Fr., Granbury, Texas) each fired matching 586s with one counting toward the Midshipmen's team score.

Among non-starters,
Deonte Hayes (Fr., Fort Mill, S.C.) notched a career-high 584 for Navy and
Luke Knollinger (Sr., Valley Grove, W. Va.) fired a 582 in his final collegiate competition.
Brianna Feerick (Jr., Pembroke, Mass.) posted a 578 and
Mason MacKenzie was just behind with a 576. Rounding out Navy's lineup was
Will Wilkins (So., Lemoore, Calif.) with a 573 and
Mark Dely (Fr., Fort Wayne, Ind.) recorded a 565.

West Virginia won the GARC title with a two-day total of 4,727 points and recorded the highest scores in both smallbore (2,346) and air rifle (2,381). Kentucky finished second with a 4,700 followed by Army with a 4,692. Ole Miss placed fourth with a score of 4,689 and Memphis notched a 4,685. Akron notched a seventh-place finish behind Navy with a total of 4,664 points. Nebraska and North Carolina State rounded out the standings at 4,661 and 4,648, respectively.

With Navy's team slate concluded, Zanti is set to represent the Midshipmen at the NCAA Championships on March 12 as he competes for the smallbore individual title.
