ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy and George Washington swimming teams competed in a slightly modified dual meet Sunday in Lejeune Hall, during which a combined 17 NCAA B cut times were posted by the Mids. Navy won both the men's (110-55) and women's (162-64) meets against the Colonials.
Each Navy team has posted a 3-1 record this year. George Washington was competing in its first dual meet of the season.
There were 32 events contested during the meet. The teams entered less than their possible four eligible swimmers in the majority of the events.
The Navy women's team posted a pair of NCAA B cut times on the day.
Kelly Huffer (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) bettered the standard in the 200 butterfly and
Martina Thomas (Jr., Fayetteville, Ark.) was under the time needed in the 500 freestyle.
"I would like to thank Loyola on Saturday and George Washington today for competing this weekend," said Navy women's swimming head coach
John Morrison. "I also would like to thank our administration for its support this weekend with putting together these meets late in the week.
"With nearly 50 personal-best performances on the weekend, we couldn't be prouder of the team. The perseverance and resiliency they have displayed through this strange unimaginative season has been awesome. We are incredibly proud of them for leaning into the sisterhood they have developed for support."
There were 15 NCAA B cut times posted by members of the Navy men's team. Leading the way were
Jake Evert (Fr., Bethlehem, Pa.) in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events and
Micah Oh (Sr., Kent, Wash.) in the 200 fly and 200 IM.
"We are super-excited about the way this team prepared and competed for today," said Navy men's swimming head coach
Bill Roberts. "In the wake of a record-setting day yesterday, the team arrived in Lejeune Hall taking nothing for granted. I believe this mindset was instrumental in our ability to continue to perform at the level at which they did.
"As a coach, it was truly special to see the Navy men and women so eager and enthusiastic about going up to the blocks for each of their races. All of our Midshipmen were terrific with their approach this weekend and it was reflected in our performances."
