Women’s Golf Defeats Mount St. Mary’s at The Dual at Prospect Bay, 616-717

Navy posted its two lowest rounds of the season en route to the win

GRASONVILLE, Md. – Navy women's golf (1-0) capped off its regular-season schedule with a victory over Mount St. Mary's (0-1) at The Dual at Prospect Bay in Grasonville, Md. The Midshipmen fired a two-round score of 40-over par 616 at the Prospect Bay Country Club, compared to the Mountaineers' 141-over par 717.
 
The Midshipmen posted their two lowest rounds of the season this weekend with a 21-over par 309 on Saturday, followed by a 19-over par 307 on Sunday.
 
"We had great practices this past week. Our short game and ball striking are improving with each practice," head coach Nadia Ste-Marie commented. "I am so proud of our team and excited for this well-deserved win."
 
Along with their two lowest scores of the season, the Midshipmen had the top five finishers in the field of 13 golfers and all of Navy's six competitors finished in the top seven.
 
Christine McDonnell (Sr., Suwanee, Ga.) captured the event title with a two-day score of 7-over par 151 (78-73) on the par-72, 6,136-yard course. McDonnell's 1-over par 73 on Sunday was also the lowest round in the field for the tournament.
 
Stephanie Lee (Fr., Southlake, Texas) finished three strokes off the lead after firing matching 5-over par 77s over the two days for a 10-over par 154. Mara Hirtle (Fr., Pinehurst, N.C.) and Tori Smith (Jr., Arlington, Tenn.) finished tied for third at 12-over par 156. Smith was the leader after day one with a 4-over par 76 and she finished the weekend with an 8-over par 80 on Sunday. Hirtle shot a 7-over par 79 on Saturday and cut strokes off her score to finish the dual with a 5-over par 77.
 
Angelina Chan (So., Franklin, Tenn.) rounded out Navy's starting five with a 14-over par 158 to place fifth. Competing as an individual, Eve Worden (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) fired a 24-over par 168 to place seventh.
 
Olivia Gardenhour paced Mount St. Mary's with a sixth-place finish after notching a 22-over par 166 for the weekend.
 
Navy now shifts its focus to the Patriot League Championship on April 24 and 25 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
