Track and Field Returns Home for Navy Twilight Record Breaker

The meet begins with the field events at 3:00 p.m. before the running events start at 4:00 p.m.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Fresh off its sweep of the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Navy track and field team returns home for the Navy Twilight Record Breaker on Wednesday evening at Ingram Field.
 
The meet begins with the field events at 3:00 p.m. before the running events start at 4:00 p.m. Live results will be available through M&D Timing, LLC.

Mangan, Thompson Share NAAA Athlete of the Week Honors
Following a sweep of the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, Navy track and field student-athletes Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) are this week's recipients of the Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Athlete of the Week award, presented by Northrop Grumman.
 
Molly led Navy women's track and field team win the 2021 Patriot League Outdoor Championship, tallying 25 points by winning a pair of individual events and a pair of relays. She sophomore helped Navy win the meet by nearly 80 points (78.34). The women's track and field team tallied 295 points, notching the most points scored in Patriot League history, smashing the previous high on the women's side of 237 set by Army in 1994. In addition to four victories, Mangan recorded a pair of Navy school records over the weekend. She won the 200m dash with a school-record time of 24.21, while running the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay team that won the event with a Navy-record time of 3:42.38. In the 100m dash, Mangan won the event with the seventh fast time in program history (11.87). The Pittsburgh native ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay that won the event with a time of 46.69. For her efforts, Mangan was named Women's Track Athlete of the Meet.
 
On the men's side, Thompson helped Navy to a come-from-behind victory to win the 2021 Patriot League Outdoor Championship. For his efforts, he was named Men's Track Athlete of the Meet, as well as Men's Highest Point Total. The senior captain recorded 36 of Navy's 298 total points. Thompson won two individual events, while claiming second in two more events and third place in his fifth event. He won the 110m hurdles with the fifth best time in Navy history (14.04), while clocking a meet record and the seventh fastest time in school history to win the 400m hurdles (51.79). The Corpus Christi native earned second-team All-Patriot League distinction in the long jump (7.08m / 23-02.75) and 4x100m relay (40.89 - opening leg). Thompson claimed third place in the pole vault with a height of 4.88m (16-00.00).
 
Last Time Out: Patriot League Outdoor Championship (May 1, 2021)
The Navy track and field team posted a pair of victories at the 2021 Patriot League Outdoor Championships at Shea Stadium in West Point, N.Y. It is the third consecutive season that the Midshipmen have swept the Outdoor Championship.
 
For the men, it was the eighth outdoor title in program history and the seventh in a row. The victory was the fifth outdoor championship for the women and third consecutive title.
 
The men trailed by 19 points with two events remaining. The Midshipmen claimed first, third, and fourth in the high jump to earn 21 points and take a two-point advantage heading into the final race. The 4x400m relay team of James Love, Sethan Hollier, Simon Petsch, and Eric Hughey took first in the final event to seal the victory for Navy.
 
On the women's side, Navy entered the day in first place and continued to add to its advantage, winning by nearly 80 points and notching the most points scored in Patriot League history. The women tallied 295 points, smashing the previous high on the women's side of 237 set by Army in 1994.
 
The Navy men finished with 298 points to win, while Army notched 294 points for second place. Bucknell took third with 70.5, while Lehigh (59) and Holy Cross (53) rounded out the top five. On the women's side, the Midshipmen registered 295 points, followed by Army (216.66) and Bucknell (129.5). Boston (61) and Lehigh (52) rounded out the top five.
 
Navy won 14 of the 44 combined events over the weekend and tallied 51 total All-Patriot League accolades. In addition, Clayton Thompson was named Men's Track Athlete of the Meet, while also earning Men's Highest Point Scorer. Molly Mangan earned Female Track Athlete of the Meet. Once again, Cook claimed both the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year awards.
