EUGENE, Ore. – Navy track and field thrower
Emma Foster (Poteet, Texas) finished in the top 20 of the qualifying round of the javelin on Friday afternoon at the Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Foster finished 19th overall, but was unable to advance to the finals.
Foster opened the competition with a distance of 45.78m (150-02) on her first throw. After a foul on her second attempt, the recent graduate improved her performance by nearly a full meter (0.97m) on her final throw, registering a distance of 46.75m (153-04).
Foster completed her collegiate career as the Navy record holder in the javelin. She holds six of the top 10 performances in Navy history, including the top four throws in the program record book.
The Poteet, Texas native is a two-time NCAA East Regional Qualifier (2019, '21). In addition, Foster is a two-time ECAC All-East performer, finishing fourth at the ECAC Outdoor Championship in the javelin in 2019 and 2021 to earn All-East distinction.
This season, Foster posted the best performance for the Midshipmen in the javelin at Regionals, finishing 14th overall. On her first throw, she posted a distance of 49.70m (163-01), which was her second-best attempt of the season. The distance ranked second in program history, behind her school record (51.97m / 170-06) set earlier in the year against Army.
