ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After helping the Midshipmen earn first place at the Navy Fall Invitational, Navy juniors
Mara Hirtle and
Stephanie Lee were named Patriot League Women's Co-Golfers of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
The two Midshipmen were tied as the top Navy finishers at this past weekend's 36-hole home tournament, placing sixth overall by each shooting 8-over par 152 and helping the Midshipmen take home first place as a team at 40-over par 616.
Hirtle shot a 1-over par 73 in Saturday's opening round to sit third overall entering Sunday, before going 7-over par 79 in the final round. For Lee, she shot a 3-over par 75 and sat tied for eighth place on Saturday before turning around to shoot a 5-over par 77 on Sunday and move up in the leaderboard.
The duo were also the top Navy golfers at the season-opening Nittany Lion Invitational, as Lee took 24th and Hirtle tied for 32nd in the 93-golfer field to help the Mids to a ninth-place finish.
This marks Hirtle's fourth time taking home weekly Patriot League honors after being named PL Women's Golfer of the Week three times last season, while this is Lee's first time receiving Golfer of the Week honors in her career.
Hirtle, Lee and the rest of the Navy women's golf team continue the fall season Friday-Sunday, Oct. 7-9 at the JEL Outer Banks Women's Intercollegiate at Duck Woods Country Club in Kitty Hawk, N.C., while senior captain
Eve Worden heads to the Jackson T. Stephens Cup on Oct. 10-12 at the Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla.
