Women’s Golf Concludes Play at the San Jose Intercollegiate

The Navy women’s golf team concluded play at the San Jose Intercollegiate Tuesday, posting a 12th-place finish in its first tournament of the 2022 spring season. Stephanie Lee was the top individual performer for the Mids, finishing with a 25-over par 241.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Navy women's golf team (0-0) concluded play at the San Jose Intercollegiate Tuesday, posting a 12th-place finish with a 103-over par 967 in its first tournament action of the 2022 spring season.
 
Stephanie Lee (So., Southlake, Texas) was the top individual performer for the Mids, finishing tied for 44th with a 25-over par 241 in the three-round, 54-hole tournament hosted at the San Jose Country Club.

"It was great to be back out on the course," said head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "Everyone fought very hard in some cool and windy conditions. We have a lot to build off of with a lot of positive takeways." 
 
Lee opened play on Monday with a 9-over par 81, prior to recording a second-round score of 12-over par 84 to enter Tuesday in a tie for 60th with a 21-over par 165. A rally in Tuesday's final round of competition ensued for the sophomore, tying her third-best score in a round this season with a 4-over par 76 to rise 16 spots among the individual leaders.
 
Finishing a stroke behind Lee in a tie for 47th was the duo of Angelina Chan (Jr., Franklin, Tenn.) and Eve Worden (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) with a three-round score of 26-over par 242, respectively.
 
Worden opened play with her best round of the tournament, a 7-over par 79, which tied her fifth-lowest score in a single round this season. The junior then tallied a 10-over par 82 in the second round prior to finishing play Tuesday with a 9-over par 81.
 
Chan tallied her lowest score of the tournament in the second round, a 6-over par 78, following an opening-round mark of an 8-over par 80. After her aforementioned rally in the second round of play, Chan posted a 12-over par 84 in Tuesday's final round.
 
Mara Hirtle (So., Pinehurst, N.C.) secured her best score of the tournament in Monday's opening round, posting an 8-over par 80, before following it up with a 12-over par 84. Hirtle was able to rebound in the third round of play, reducing her score by two strokes with a 10-over par 82 to finish with a final tally of 30-over par 246 along with securing sole possession of 59th place.
 
Team captain Tori Smith (Sr., Arlington, Tenn.) rounded out play for the Midshipmen in a tie for 79th with an overall mark of 40-over par 256. The senior tallied an 8-over par 80 in the second round of play, her lowest score of the tournament, which was bookended by a pair 16-over par 88's in the first and third round.
 
Campbell finished first in the team standings with a 33-over par 897 on the back of a 1-under par 215 effort from Emily Hawkins who was crowned the tournament's individual champion.   
 
UP NEXT

Navy is slated to return to action March 18-20 as it travels to Hilton Head, S.C. for the Low Country Intercollegiate. The tournament, hosted by Wofford College, will be hosted at the Moss Creek Golf Club.
