Navy squash standouts
Ryan York (Sr / Hunt Valley, Md.) and
Millen Randell (Jr / Chicago, Ill.) were named Second-Team All-Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference selections it was announced this week. The Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference is the first squash-specific collegiate athletic conference in the United States and was officially sanctioned by the College Squash Association Board of Directors in May of 2019. The conference includes Dickinson, Drexel, Franklin & Marshall, MIT, Navy and Virginia.
York, the Mids' team captain, appeared in 25 matches for Navy his senior campaign and split his time between the No. 1 and 2 positions on the ladder. He produced a 12-13 record on the year, including a 10-2 mark at the No. 2 spot. York won a huge five-game match (11-6, 11-8, 6-11, 14-16, 11-6) against Tufts' Harry Charlton in the championship match of the Summers Cup where Navy went on to defeat the Jumbos 5-4. York closed out his career wth a 34-35 record.
Randell, meanwhile, played opposite York in the lineup, taking the No. 1 positions when York played No. 2 and vice versa. The three-year letter winner posted a 16-11 record this season, including a 10-4 mark as the Mids' No. 1 player. While York sparked a 3-0 run by Navy in its Summers Cup victory over Tufts, it was Randell who scored the match-winning victory. With the match even at four wins apiece, Randell swept Kunal Valia in three game to clinch the match and the Summer Cup for the Mids.
The 17th-ranked Midshipmen closed out the year with a 15-12 record and were presented the Sloane Award for team sportsmanship. It was the eighth time Navy was presented the award and the first since 2004.
