Navy Golf Set to Compete at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

The Navy men's golf team will compete for the second time in a week when it makes the trip to Georgia this weekend to compete in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational presented by Valspar. Co-hosted by the Augusta Golf Association and the Haskins Foundation, the two-day 54-hold event is slated to begin on Saturday morning at Forest Hills Golf Club (par 72 / 7,086 yards). The tournament gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 am with 36 holes scheduled for Saturday.

The Field
• Navy is among a 15-team field that is highlighted by 3 teams ranked n the top 20 and 8 teams in the top 50 - #2 Oklahoma State, #12 Texas, #13 Notre Dame, #24 Illinois, #28 South Carolina, #35 North Florida, #37 Alabama, #45 Northwestern, #69 Central Florida, #97 Furman, #137 Chattanooga,#143 Augusta, #147 Mercer, #156 Georgia State and #237Navy (rankings via Golfstat as of March 29).
• Oklahoma State is the defending champion, taking the 2021 tournament title with a 37-under par 827. Meanwhile, South Carolina's Ryan Hall took medalist honors wit his 14-under par 202.

The Course
Established in 1926, Augusta University's Forest Hills is a much loved staple within the Augusta, Georgia golf community. The 18-hole course was originally designed by world renowned course architect Donald Ross and renovated by the Arnold Palmer Company in 2003. Forest Hills is home to Augusta University's men's and women's golf teams and became a part of history again when the men's team successfully defended its 2010 NCAA Division I National Title to earn its second-consecutive National Championship in 2011.

More on the Mids
• Navy played in five events during the fall season, including the annual Army-Navy Star Match in which the Mids won in a dramatic playoff 6-5.
• Navy fall tournament docket included:  6th out of 14 at The Doc Gimmler / 7th out of 16 at  the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse / 2nd out of 12 teams at the Georgetown Intercollegiate and 14th out of 17 teams at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
Nicholas Klock competed as an individual at the prestigious Jackson T. Stephens Cup where he finished with a 15-over par 231. The tournament featured six of the top 60 teams in the country and Klock was one of six golfers who received a special invitation to play in the inaugural event.
• The Mids opened their spring ledger last Sunday playing in The Hayt which featured 13 teams ranked among the nation's top 100. Team captain Chad Deegan paced the team with his three-round mark of 231 (80-73-78, +15) to place 69th.

Up Next
Navy will play its final tournament before the conference tournament when it travels to Pennsylvania for the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational April 10-11. The Steel Club will be the host venue and will also play host to the 2022 Patriot League Championship set for April 29-May 1.
