Track and Field to Compete in Prestigious Penn Relays

The Penn Relays are Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team heads to Philadelphia this weekend to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field. It is the 126th running of the Penn Relays and the first time since 2019 with the past two years being cancelled due to the pandemic. The competition begins on Thursday, April 28 and continues through Saturday, April 30.

Patriot League Championship
May 6-7, 2022 | Annapolis, Md. | Ingram Field

The 2022 Patriot League Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held at U.S Naval Academy's Ingram Field beginning Friday, May 6 concluding Saturday, May 7. All nine men's programs and each of the ten women's programs will compete in the events.
 
Trio of Mids Earn Patriot League Track and Field Weekly Honors (April 26, 2022)
The Patriot League announced its weekly track and field honors and three Navy student-athletes received distinction. Winter Boese (Clark, Colo.) was named Patriot League Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Erin Higgins (Ashburn, Va.) claimed PL Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors. Jacques Guillaume (Jacksonville, Fla.) was tabbed the Men's Rookie of the Week.
 
Boese set the Navy school record in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Virginia Challenge. She clocked a new Navy top time of 10:14.85 in the event, besting the previous record, which was originally set in 2001. The junior's time beat the previous record (10:24.01) by nearly 10 seconds (9.16). Boese's time ranks 40th in the NCAA and is the top performance in the Patriot League this season.
 
Higgins competed in the heptathlon over the weekend at the Navy Spring Meet II, smashing the previous school record. She finished with a school-record 5,395 points, besting the previous record of 4,873, which was originally set in 2006, by 522 points. In the process of competing in the heptathlon, Higgins posted a height of 1.70m (5-07.00) in the high jump, which is the eighth best in Navy history. The senior's performance in the heptathlon ranks 38th in the NCAA and is first in the Patriot League this season.
 
Guillaume competed in a pair of sprints over the weekend at the Navy Spring Meet II, posting a pair of IC4A qualifying times. The freshman won the 400m dash with an IC4A qualifying time of 47.97. He came in fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.54 (1.5), which was the third best among collegiate athletes (Olympian Devon Allen won the event) and tops among freshmen. His time in the 200m was the fourth best in the Patriot League this season and second-best among freshmen. Guillaume, who has the fastest time in the 400m in the Patriot League this season, posted the second-fastest time in the conference this year.
 
Last Time Out: Navy Spring Meet II / at Virginia Challenge (April 23, 2022)
The Navy track and field team recorded a solid weekend as the Midshipmen hosted the Navy Spring Meet II at Ingram Field in Annapolis, while also competing at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville.
 
Navy Spring Meet II Recap
At the Navy Spring Meet II, the Midshipmen tallied 11 top-10 performances throughout the meet.
 
Erin Higgins (Ashburn, Va.) tallied 5,395 total points in the heptathlon to best the previous record of 4,873 by 522 points. Katie Halbert (Keller, Texas) posted the seventh best performance in the heptathlon with 4,809 points.
 
Higgins' height in the high jump during the pentathlon (1.70m / 5-07.00) was the eighth best in program history. Taylor Buchanan (Columbia, S.C.) posted the sixth best performance in the high jump, clearing 1.71m (5-07.25).
 
Halbert notched a time of 13.92 (0.9) in the 100m hurdles during the heptathlon, which was the fourth best performance in school history. Lindsay Lewis (Lanham, Md.) notched the ninth best time in school history in the hurdles with a time of 14.01 (1.0).
 
Sabrina Sutter (Shingletown, Calif.) and Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) clocked times of 24.21 (1.9) and 24.31 (1.9) in the 200m dash, which ranked fourth and seventh, respectively, in Navy history. Mangan also posted the second fastest time in school history in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 54.38.
 
The Navy 4x100m relay team of Lewis, Breanna Mealer (Severn, Md.), Mangan, and Sutter combined for a time of 46.33, which is the sixth best in program history.
 
On the men's side, Brahmir Vick (Middletown, Del.) clocked the third fastest time in Midshipmen history in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.82.
 
In addition, Navy posted 28 IC4A and 13 ECAC qualifying times / marks at the Navy Spring Meet II.
 
Olympian and Navy volunteer Devon Allen competed in the 100m and 200m dashes, along with the 110m hurdles. The world's No. 1 ranked hurdler clocked the fastest time in the world this season, 13.12 (1.1), in the 110m hurdles. In addition, posted facility-record time of 10.20 (1.8) in the 100m dash, while notching a time of 20.65 in the 200m dash.
 
Virginia Challenge Recap
Navy sent a small group of distance runners to Charlottesville, Va. for the Virginia Challenge. The group tallied six top-10 performances in school history.
 
In the 3,000m steeplechase, Winter Boese (Clark, Colo.) and Ellie Abraham (Brookings, S.D.) recorded the top two performances in Navy history with times of 10:14.85 and 10:20.14, respectively. Jessica Nangle (South Hampton, Pa.) posted the sixth best performance in the 5,000m, crossing the finish line in 16:48.78.
 
On the men's side, Alex Rizzo (Bronxville, N.Y.) set the school record in the 1,500m (3:41.59) and notched the second-fastest time in school history in the 800m (1:48.53) in a pair of races. Miguel Mathias (Nekoosa, Wisc.) clocked a time of 13:57.76 in the 5,000m run for the fifth-best time in program history.
