Game Day Storylines
• 27 Games and Counting: Heading into Friday night's contest, Navy's
Patrick Skalniak (Jr / M) owns a 27-game point-scoring streak. He has amassed 76 points on 42 goals and 34 assists during the streak which dates back to his first-collegiate game on Feb. 7, 2020, against Manhattan. Maryland's Logan Wisnauskas owns the nation's longest point-scoring streak at 69-consecutive games (every game of his career).
• 40: Patrick Skalniak (Jr / M) leads the team in the scoring column this spring with 42 points on 25 goals and 17 assists. He is one of only 5 midfielders in program history to score 40 points in a season - 44 by Bob DeSimone (1975), 48 by Ryan Wade (2019), 53 by Glen Miles (1986) and 53 by Brian Keith (1989). He needs 3 assists to join 1986 MacLaughlin Award winner Glen Miles (23G, 30A in 1986) and Ryan Wade (20G, 28A in 2019) as the only three midfielders in school history to score 20 goals and deal out 20 assists in a single season.
• 30-Point Midfielders: Patrick Skalniak (Jr) became the program's 17th different midfielder to reach 30 points in a season when he contributed 6 points (3G, 3A) in the Mids' 11-10 win at Johns Hopkins on March 18.
Dane Swanson (So), meanwhile, added his name to the list last Saturday at Army where he turned in 4 points (1G, 3A) to eclipse 30 points. Skalniak and Swanson are just the second set of midfielders to reach 30 points in a season in school history. Ryan Wade and Greyson Torain did it not once, but in back-to-back years (2018 Wade 33 pts, Torain 33 pts / 2019 Wade 48 pts, Torain 37 pts). It would not be out of the question for
Max Hewitt (So) to join his linemates on the list, as he currently owns 25 points (17-8). Navy has never had 3 midfielders score 30 points in a season.
• The Race to 100: Co-captain
Nick Cole (Sr / A) is looking to become just the 37th player in program history to reach the 100-point scoring milestone. Cole heads into the Bucknell contest with 91-career points, having scored 49 goals and 42 assists. Navy is guaranteed at least 2 more contests this spring (Bucknell, Patriot League Quarterfinals) and should Cole reach 100 points during that span, he would be the 15th fastest (42 gms) to achieve it in school history. Among the list of 37, 16 players have added their names to the list in the last 25 years, including
Christian Daniel (122) in 2021, Greyson Torain (132) in 2019 and Ryan Wade (119) in 2019. Forty-five years after graduating, Jeff Long remains the Mids' all-time leading scorer with 233 points (84-149).
• Skalniak Earns National Recognition: Patrick Skalniak (Jr / M) was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) National Team of the Week which recognizes the 10 best individual performances from the previous week by players around the country. Recording his fifth hat trick of the 2022 campaign, Skalniak helped Navy rally from a three-goal halftime deficit to defeat No. 6 Army in overtime 12-11.
