NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) announced its first group of Athletes of the Week for the 2022 season and Navy's placekicker
Mychal Golden (Jonesboro, Ark.) was tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week. It is the second time in Golden's career he has been named Special Teams Player of the Week.
In Navy's opening week victory over Chestnut Hill, Golden was a perfect 5-for-5 against the Griffins, registering nine points in the game. The All-Conference kicker made a pair of field goals – 42 yards and 32 yards – to go along with three extra points.
Trailing 7-0, Golden hit a 42-yard field goal to put Navy on the scoreboard and trim the margin. Before the half, he converted the extra point after
Alex Totta (Kansas City, Kan.) scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown to give the Midshipmen a 10-7 advantage at the half.
Golden added a PAT before drilling a 32-yard field goal to extend the advantage to 20-7 in the third quarter. The junior capped the scoring with a PAT on Totta's second touchdown to provide the final margin of 27-7.
Navy returns to action next Friday as the Midshipmen host Army in the annual Star Game, which is part of the overall Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. Opening kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, while live stats will be available throughout the game.
