ANNAPOLIS, Md. – It was another busy weekend for the Navy offshore sailing team, as the Midshipmen had crews competing in two events this past weekend.
Â
In the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta, sailed on Lake Michigan out of Chicago, Illinois, Navy was represented by junior skipper Pat Fisher, who took third place in the J/105 class. His crew included junior
Kit Oney, sophomores Nick Gibbons,
Luke Moore,
Austin Nolan and
Jack Ubert.Â
Â
In the Annapolis Yacht Club's 36-mile Race to Solomons, Navy had six boats entered. In the seven-boat field for the J/105 class, senior skipper
JT Pitts led his
Dreadnought crew to first place, finishing a half mile ahead of the second-place boat. Pitts's crew included senior
Larry Frazier, sophomores Isabella Navolio, Joe Payton and
Brandon Prouse and freshman Colin Caraher. Behind them was junior skipper
Rowan Suarez-Parmer, leading the
Constellation crew to fourth place in the same class.
Â
Similar to previous distance races in the Chesapeake Bay this fall, the winds for Saturday's race were fickle, with only Pitts and Suarez-Parmer's crews able to finish within the time limit.
Â
Next up for the Navy offshore sailing team will be the Storm Trysail Club's Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta (Oct. 7-9) in Larchmont, N.Y., and the Annapolis Yacht Club's Fall Series (Oct. 8-9).
