2023 Conference Champions to Meet in the Pool Friday and Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy swimming and diving teams will compete against fellow defending conference championship-winning teams this weekend as the men's team (0-1) will compete Friday at UMBC (2-0) at 4 p.m. and both the men and women's teams (0-1) will play host to George Washington (0-1 women, 0-1 men) Saturday in Lejeune Hall.  The diving events for the George Washington meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the first swimming race will start at 10 a.m.

Navy swept the two 2023 Patriot League team titles, UMBC won the men's America East title a year ago and George Washington won both of the Atlantic 10 titles this past spring.

The Meet Mobile app will have live results from both meets.

Navy Women's Team (0-1)
Navy's season began two weeks ago with a 196-104 loss at Penn State.

Lauren Walsh earned two first-place finishes for the Mids in the meet as she swept the breaststroke races.  Also picking up a win was diver Mackenzie Kim with her effort in the one-meter event.

UMBC Men's Team (2-0)
The Retrievers enter Friday's meet having already posted victories over American (194-100) and La Salle (155-145).

UMBC compiled a 2-5 dual-meet record last season –– one of the losses was a 163-115 defeat to Navy –– and won the America East Conference Championship for the second year in a row and fifth time in six seasons.

Navy holds a 26-3 advantage in the all-time series with UMBC and has won the last nine meets in the series.

The only other team currently in the America East Conference Navy has faced is VMI.  The Mids have won both meets against the Keydets, with the last dual taking place during the 1957-58 season.

George Washington Women's Team (0-1)
The Revolutionaries lost their season opener to Virginia Tech by the score of 191-109.

George Washington totaled a 5-4 record during the 2022-23 regular season, which included a narrow 157-143 loss to Navy.  The Revolutionaries would go on to win the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship for the second-straight year and third time in four seasons.

The Mids have won six-straight meets with George Washington to take a 16-4-1 lead in the series.

Navy holds a 33-15-1 advantage when facing teams that currently comprise the Atlantic 10 Conference.

George Washington Men's Team (0-1)
George Washington fell, 214-86, to Virginia Tech in the team's first meet of the year.

Navy leads the series with George Washington by the count of 15-1.

The Mids have posted a 26-1 record against teams that currently compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
