Offshore Sailing Finishes Ninth at J/105 Chesapeake Championships

Navy Prepares for Kennedy Cup on Nov. 4-5 in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team had two boats entered in the J/105 Chesapeake Championships this past weekend at the Annapolis Yacht Club.

Taking part in the five-race series, junior skipper Brandon Prouse led AVENGER to ninth place in 15-boat field. Conditions on both days were challenging with strong winds near the upper limit for racing, but Prouse and his crew kept their boat and themselves in one piece throughout. Prouse's crew included juniors Isabelle Novolio and Austin Nolan, and sophomores Kaili Williams, Kai Widick and Colin Caraher.

Our other entry, CONSTELLATION skippered by junior Gus Reed and crew, suffered damage to their boat in a collision with a civilian competitor during the first race, knocking them out of the series just as it was starting.

Next up for Navy is the Kennedy Cup, as the Mids will try to claim college sailing's National Big Boat Championship on Nov. 4-5 in Annapolis aboard the fleet of Navy 44s.
