Sophomore raider Luke Pirris (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) has been named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 27-24 conference win over North Texas.
 
Pirris, making his first-career start, recorded a career-high 9 tackles, a sack, a tackle for a loss, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble in Navy's 27-24 win over North Texas. 
 
His 18-yard sack of North Texas quarterback Chandler Rogers caused a fumble that was recovered by junior linebacker Colin Ramos at the North Texas 21-yard line.  Sophomore fullback Alex Tecza (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored on the very next play to give Navy a 27-17 lead and the Mids would hold on for the 27-24 win.
 
Pirris is tied for third in the country in fumble recoveries with two.
 
Tecza was named to the AAC honor roll for his performance against the Mean Green as he rushed for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 carries (8.1 yards per carry).  Tecza scored on a 39-yard run to give Navy its first lead of the game at 7-3 and then rumbled for what would be the game-winning score in the fourth quarter after the Pirris caused fumble. 
 
Tecza is third in the AAC in rushing, averaging 85.6 yards per game and is fifth in the nation in average yards per carry (7.64).
