Dawson & Riddle Selected to Patriot League All-Academic Team

Dawson named for the third time in her career; Riddle for the first time

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Patriot League announce its 2023 Women's Soccer All-Academic Team on Wednesday afternoon and Navy earned two of the 11 spots on the exclusive list courtesy of the selections of Chloe Dawson (Sr., Fairfax, Va.) and Alexa Riddle (Jr., Tomball, Texas). Key members on opposing ends of the pitch for the Mids, Dawson as a defender and Riddle as a forward, the duo's success in competition, as well as in the classroom, earned them this recognition as Dawson is an honors robotics & control engineering major, while Riddle is studying cyber operations at the Naval Academy.

A high achiever throughout her four years as a Mid, Dawson adds to her collection of honors as this is her third career Patriot League All-Academic Team award. In Navy Women's Soccer's deep history, only four players have ever earned a spot among the league's best and brightest all three years that they were eligible (Victoria Tran, 2019-21; Sydney Fortson, 2017-19; Meghan Hegarty, 2015-17). Playing in all 19 games for Navy as a senior, Dawson was on the field for 900 minutes of action. On the offensive end of the pitch, the senior recorded nine shots and recorded a goal against Delaware State and an assist in the season-opener versus Charleston Southern. As a student at the Naval Academy, Dawson has earned recognition on the USNA's Supt's and Dant's Lists in each of her first six completed semesters, while posting a 3.98 grade point average. Among the Class of 2024, she resides inside the top-20 of both the Overall and Military Orders of Merit. Dawson is a two-time Academic All-American as she was named a second team honoree in 2021 and a first team selection in 2022, the 2023 award that is voted on by the College Sports Communicators organization will be announced later this fall.

Named last week to the All-Patriot League Second Team for her strong junior season, Riddle is a first-time Patriot League All-Academic selection. A cyber operations major with a 3.45 GPA, she earned her third career year-end playing honor as she was previously named to the first team during her Patriot League Rookie of Year campaign in 2021 and to the third team as a sophomore in 2022. This fall on the pitch with the Mids, Riddle scored four goals with three assists over 17 contests and notched game-winning markers against Charleston Southern, Presbyterian and Lehigh. In the classroom, Riddle has been recognized on the Dant's List all four semesters and is just outside the top-10 percent of the Naval Academy's Class of 2025 in Military Order of Merit. She's twice been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2021 and 2022.

The duo extends Navy's program streak of having at least one player on the Patriot League All-Academic Team in every season since 2015.

Six of 10 Patriot League institutions were represented on the 2023 Patriot League All-Academic Team with Bucknell, Boston University and Navy all having multiple honorees.

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out during the summer.

The voting for the all-Academic squads was conducted by the League's women's soccer sports information directors, who could not vote for their own student-athletes.
