ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Friday's opening day at the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championship ended with both Navy teams atop the leaderboards. The men's team accrued 255 points to lead second-place Princeton by 115 points, while the Mids recorded 164 points in the women's events to be 14 points clear of second-place Bucknell.
Navy combined for four victories on the day.
Rachel Schlemmer (Jr., Sterling, Va.) posted a time of 4:54.01 to win the women's 500 free by over four seconds.
The women's team of
Chloe Skogg (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.),
Sydney Bare (So., Moreland Hills, Ohio),
Sydney Paglia (Jr., West Grove, Pa.) and
Megan McGrath (Fr., Jacksonville, Fla.) combined to win the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:44.78. The Mids won the race by nearly five seconds.
The Navy men's team won both relay events contested Friday. The team of
Ben Denman-Grimm (Fr., Vienna, Va.),
Thomas Morris (So., New Albany, Ohio),
Paul Kinsella (Sr., Arlington, Va.) and
Warren Turner (Sr., Memphis, Tenn.) posted a time of 1:20.26 to win the 200 free relay by 1.6 seconds, and the foursome of Morris,
Richie Trentalange (Jr., Leonardo, N.J.), Turner and
Ben Denman-Grimm posted a four-second victory in the 400 medley relay with its effort of 3:16.35.
Competition continues Saturday and Sunday.
