Navy’s Schultz Named Academic All-American

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy's Jackson Schultz (Sr., Millersville, Md.) has been selected as a Third Team Academic All-American for men's swimming and diving by the College Sports Communicators, formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

This is the first year the organization has presented a standalone Academic All-America team for swimming and diving.  It has been part of the at-large sports offering in past years.

Nominees for the award needed to be at least a sophomore academically and carry a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.  All nominees who do not earn Academic All-America status receive academic all-district honors.

Navy's Gabi Baldwin (Jr., Lake Elmo, Minn.), Patrick Colwell (Jr., New Canaan, Conn.), Cameron Horner (Jr., Hebron, Md.), Caroline Irwin (So., Buford, Ga.) and James Lee (Sr., La Canada, Calif.) received academic all-district accolades for men's and women's swimming and diving this year.

Schultz was named the Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year for his sport in both 2022 and '23.  The mechanical engineering major carries a 3.85 GPA and has posted a 4.00 GPA in three of his seven completed semesters.  A First-Team All-Patriot League honoree in both 2022 and '23, he placed seventh at this year's league championship with 48 individual event points.  He finished in second place in the 100 and 200 breaststroke finals and also placed fifth in the 200 individual medley final.  Schultz additionally swam on Navy's winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams at the meet.  He totaled three NCAA B cut times this season and has attained seven B cuts over the past three years.

This is the sixth time in the last eight years in which a Navy men's swimmer has earned Academic All-America status.

Schultz joins Chloe Dawson from the women's soccer team and Eavan Gibbons from the football team as Mids who have earned Academic All-America laurels this year.
