ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coming down to a sudden-death playoff hole, the Navy women's golf team was defeated by Delaware in the Battle at the Bay match play event on Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club.
Playing on the par-72, 6085-yard course, the Blue Hens took the first point when the reigning CAA Women's Golfer of the Week, Alisa Khokhlova, defeated junior
Mara Hirtle, 3 & 2, while freshman
Sue Lee evened the score at 1-1 with a 4 & 3 victory over Lexi Dart.
Junior
Stephanie Lee gave the Midshipmen a 2-1 lead with her 3 & 1 win over Oihana Etxezarreta, but the Blue Hens' Christina Carroll tied the match when she beat sophomore
Bridget Hoang, 3 & 2.
Delaware jumped back in front when Lilia Henkel took down freshman
Hallie Brisco, the defending Patriot League Golfer of the Week, in a 5 & 3 final, but senior captain
Eve Worden pulled things even, 3-3, in the sixth match when she defeated Anna Kittelson (one-up).
With Worden and Henkel facing off in a sudden-death playoff hole, Henkel would prove victorious to hand the Blue Hens the match win.
