ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's basketball program under the direction of fourth-year head coach
Tim Taylor is pleased to introduce a talented group of freshmen, who will be joining the team for this upcoming 2023-24 season. The Class of 2027 consists of five recruited student-athletes from across the country. Over the next week, each recruit will be profiled. The fourth member of the class to be featured is Saran Moschella from Staten Island, New York.
A three-sport athlete from the Staten Island Academy, Moschella thrived in basketball, soccer and lacrosse for the Tigers. A hoops standout, she finished her high school career with Heather Demauro's squad by scoring over 1,000 points and earning 2022-23 SIA Athlete of the Year and Team MVP honors, a spot on the All-New York State Class A Third Team and the MVP award from the Rose Classics Tournament. Earlier in her interscholastic career, Moschella was named to the 2021-22 All-New York State Class A Sixth Team, as well twice earning the Rose Classics Scholar-Athlete Award and competing with Staten Island Academy in the 2022 NYSAIS vs. PSAL State Championship.
Prosperous in her endeavors on the soccer and lacrosse fields, she was named to the 2022 Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) All-Conference Soccer Team following her fall senior season and to the same team in the spring for girls lacrosse. Moschella and the Staten Island soccer team won the 2022 ACIS Girls Varsity Championship after taking the ACIS and PSAA titles in 2019 and 2020.
The daughter of Joseph and Aminata, she participated in the National Honor Society all four years of high school and was honored with the President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence.
"We are adding another versatile player in Saran Moschella," remarked head coach
Tim Taylor. "She plays the game with a flair and is an outstanding passer. She also gives us another excellent shooter. She has had multiple games where she has hit five or more three-pointers. She is outstanding in the open court. I believe she can be a difference-maker on the defensive end as well. Her best basketball is ahead of her and I can't wait to see how she develops over the next four years."
