Tim Taylor, the Midshipmen are excited to welcome Mike Coppolino,
Bernadette Devaney and
Faith Randolph to their program. All three new additions come to Annapolis with a plethora of coaching experience from a variety of different areas and levels. Mike Coppolino – Associate Head Coach
Most recently the head coach at George Fox University from 2019 through 2023, Coppolino led the Bruins to a 51-37 record over his four seasons at the helm of the Oregon-based program. He immediately found success at George Fox in his debut season as he led the Bruins to a 23-6 overall record and an appearance in the 2019-20 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen before the COVID-19 pandemic cut the season short. Off the court, Coppolino's squads were strong in the classroom as well they had the 12th-best GPA in NCAA DIII for 2019. During his four seasons, six different Bruin players earned All-Northwest Conference honors.
Prior to leading the George Fox program, Coppolino won 91 games over six years as the head coach of Mount St. Mary College in New York. Taking over the Knights in an interim basis in 2013-14, he quickly grabbed the full-time position and turned the program's fortunes around with three consecutive years of 19-plus wins in 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19. He was twice named the Skyline Conference's Coach of the Year (2016-17 and 2017-18), while leading MSMC to the 2019 NCAA Tournament on the strength of an 18-0 conference mark and a 23-6 overall record. Overall, as a collegiate head coach, Coppolino is 142-106.
A 2007 graduate from Eckerd College, Coppolino additionally worked in athletics as a clubhouse attendant with the Boston Red Sox, as an assistant men's basketball coach at Alfred University and with the men's basketball and golf programs at Mount St. Mary.
"I am really excited to add Mike to our staff," exclaimed Taylor. "Throughout the interview process, you could feel his passion for developing players both on and off the court. He has been a proven winner as a head coach at the collegiate level and exemplifies the values that we look for to shepherd our Mids through their experience at the Academy. We are excited to have his wife Jess and their son, Carter join our family."
"I am thrilled for this opportunity to work with such a special group of young athletes who are developing into our country's leaders," remarked Coppolino. "Coach Taylor has a great vision for the program and I am looking forward to pushing our program back into the forefront of the Patriot League."
Bernadette Devaney – Assistant Coach
A familiar face to the Patriot League, Devaney has eight years of experience as both a student-athlete and a coach in the conference. A 2018 graduate from Lehigh University, Devaney was most recently the director of recruiting at West Virginia University during the 2022-23 season. With her guidance this past season, the Mountaineers went 19-12 and 10-8 in the Big 12 before qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to her time in Morgantown, Devaney served as an assistant coach at Lehigh for three seasons after initially joining the coaching ranks as the director of operations for the 2018-19 season. Leaning on her acumen as a guard, she primarily focused on working with the Mountain Hawks' perimeter players. During her four seasons on staff in Bethlehem, Lehigh posted a 69-38 record and secured the program's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2010 as part of the 2020-21 season.
As a student-athlete at Lehigh, Devaney appeared in 111 games from 2014 to 2018 and shot 37.8 percent from three-point range and 82.4 percent from the foul line as a senior in 2017-18. She holds two degrees from Lehigh, a bachelor's degree in management (2018) and a master's degree in sociology (2020).
"I am thrilled to add Bernadette to our coaching staff, commented Taylor. "She brings a wealth of knowledge of the Patriot League to our staff. She played and coached in the league with great success which gives her an understanding of the type of person/player that will be highly successful in this league. Bern has an infectious personality and will help in developing our players on and off the court."
"I am beyond excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach at the US Naval Academy and to work for Coach Taylor, who's experience and reputation is widely known," remarked Devaney. "I look forward to working alongside the basketball and athletic staff in helping meet the needs of the Academy and its student athletes. The Patriot League is a highly competitive conference, both athletically and academically, and I am proud to be back in the league. I am looking forward to assisting the development of our players on the court and as future leaders."

I always admired how hard she played and her competitive nature on the court. She brings a varied skill set to the Yard that will aid our players' overall development on and off the court. I have known her for a long time and she has an incredible heart for people and loves to be in the gym developing players."
"Coach Taylor has made a huge impact on the success of Virginia Women's Basketball during his time there and I am very excited to be a part of his program and Navy Women's Basketball," remarked Randolph. "Being part of an institution that develops young women as leaders is very special to me and I am very proud to be a part of it."
