Volleyball Returns Home for Matches vs. Bucknell and Lafayette This Weekend

This Week
•     The Navy volleyball team will be home for its only matches in Annapolis in a five-week span this weekend when the Mids play host to Bucknell and Lafayette.
•    Navy (10-2, 2-1) faces Bucknell (6-7, 2-2) Friday at 7 p.m. and Lafayette (6-6, 2-2) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Wesley A. Brown Field House.

Accessing the USNA
•     Vehicle access to the USNA is limited to those with an approved ID card.  All others must park outside of the USNA.
•    On Friday, fans can either park downtown and walk through the gate one visitors center (52 King George St., Annapolis, MD, 21402) or park ($10 / vehicle) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Ave., Annapolis, MD, 21401) and ride the free shuttle bus.  
•    On Saturday, the free shuttle bus will depart from and return to the Navy Health Clinic (695 Kinkaid Rd., Annapolis, MD, 21402) due to the Navy football game taking place at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
•     The shuttle bus service begins one hour prior the start of the match and ends four hours after the match begins.
•    Regardless of how one accesses the USNA, those ages 18 and over must have a government issued photo identification card, such as a driver's license, and visitors ages 17 and under who do not have a valid photo ID must be accompanied by an adult.

Last Week
•     Navy played a pair of road matches last week, losing in five sets at Colgate and winning in three sets at Holy Cross.
•    The Raiders halted Navy's eight-match winning streak with a 27-25, 20-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12 victory in the rematch of the 2022 Patriot League Tournament final.
•    Navy posted more kills than Colgate, 72-60, but the Mids had more attack errors, 28-19, thanks to the Raiders holding a 13-8 lead in blocks.
•    Colgate also was more successful at the service line as the Raiders totaled nine aces and 12 errors in contrast to three aces and 13 errors by Navy.
•    Jordan Llewellyn (19 kills, 13 digs) and Jamie Llewellyn (13 kills, 12 digs) each posted double-doubles in the match.  Middle hitters Maggie Bodman (18 kills, .556 hitting pct., three blocks) and Anna Klemeyer (13 kills, .478, four blocks) also played well, as did setter Averi Miller (58 assists) and libero Hannah Hoover (19 digs).
•    The following day, Navy recorded a 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 victory at Holy Cross.
•    The Crusaders opened up leads of 10-2 and 16-8, but the Mids tied the set at 17-17.  Holy Cross soon took a 22-20 lead only to see Navy score the next five points to win the set.
•    After the 16-8 set one start for Holy Cross, Navy outscored the Crusaders 67-38 over the rest of the match.
•    Navy again had more kills than its opponent, 38-26, but this time the Mids forced the Crusaders in more attack errors, 23-10, despite Navy holding just a 7-6 lead in blocks.
•    Navy hit .301 and held Holy Cross to a .032 mark.
•    Jordan Llewellyn's 13 kills led all players, with Anna Klemeyer posting 10 kills and a .400 hitting match.  Hannah Hoover scooped up 17 digs in the three sets.

Bucknell Preview
•    Bucknell travels to Annapolis on a two-match winning streak that evened its league record at 2-2.
•    The Bison opened league play with losses at home to Army, 3-0, and Colgate, 3-1, then went on the road and recorded wins at Lehigh, 3-2, and Lafayette, 3-1.
•    Navy had won 12 matches in a row over Bucknell until the Bison defeated the Mids in five sets last year in the regular season finale for both teams.
•    The teams played a pair of five-set matches last season, with Navy winning in Lewisburg.
•    Four of the 10 sets played by the teams last season were decided by just two points.  This includes the Bison winning by the score of 32-30 (set two at Bucknell) and 16-14 (set five at Navy) and the Mids winning a 21-19 fifth set at Bucknell.
•    Navy totaled 217 points against Bucknell last season and the Bison tallied 212 points against the Mids.

Series History
•    Navy holds a 38-23 lead in the all-time series with Bucknell.  This includes a 16-12 edge in matches played in Annapolis.
•    The Mids also lead the Bison, 32-22, in Patriot League regular season matches.  However, that advantage for Navy is just 14-11 in league matches played on The Yard.

Lafayette Preview
•    Lafayette will play Friday at American prior to facing the Mids on Saturday.  This weekend marks the first road matches of the league campaign for the Leopards.
•    The Bison began the league season with a 3-1 win over Holy Cross, suffered losses to Army, 3-0, and Bucknell, 3-1, and defeated Lehigh, 3-1, in their most recent match.

Series History
•    Navy has posted an overall record of 49-12 against Lafayette.  That includes a 22-6 record for the Mids in matches played in Annapolis.
•    The Mids also hold a 44-10 advantage in Patriot League regular season matches against the Leopards.  Navy leads, 22-5, in league regular season matches played on The Yard.
•    Navy defeated Lafayette in both meetings last season, winning in four sets in Annapolis and three sets in Easton.
•    Three of the seven sets between the teams were decided by just two points, which included the Mids winning by scores of 25-23 (set one) and 26-24 (set three) in the match played in Annapolis.
•    Last year's results came after Lafayette registered a pair of 3-1 wins over Navy during the 2021 campaign.

Next Week
•    Navy heads back on the road for matches Friday at Lehigh and Saturday at Army.
•    The Mids will play five of their seven October matches on the road.

Miller Surpasses 2,000 Career Assists
•     A year ago, Averi Miller became the ninth Mid during the rally scoring era and 13th Navy setter since 1994 (when statistics became available) to surpass 1,000 career assists.
•    This season, she has become the seventh Mid overall and fourth during the rally scoring era to reach 2,000 career helpers.
•    The current senior was limited to just 69 assists as a freshman when Navy played only five matches during the 2020/21 spring COVID season.
