#12 Navy Concludes Fall Portion of Schedule in Ohio

Navy will compete against #9 Ohio State and #7 Nebraska on Saturday before concluding the weekend against the Huskers and #14 Akron.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The 12th-ranked Navy rifle team (6-4, 2-1 GARC) travels to Ohio for a pair of matches over the weekend. The Midshipmen open the weekend in Columbus, Ohio as the Mids take on No. 9 Ohio State (3-3) and No. 7 Nebraska (6-3) in Converse Hall at 9:00 a.m. Navy concludes the weekend in Akron, Ohio as the Midshipmen take on No. 14 Akron (5-2, 0-1 GARC) and the Huskers at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range at 8:00 a.m. Live results will be available each day.
 
National Rankings
Navy is ranked No. 12 in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) rankings. Nebraska enters the weekend at No. 7, while Ohio State comes in at No. 9. Akron is two spots behind the Mids at No. 14.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
Navy enters the weekend 6-4 with a 2-1 mark in the Great America Rifle Conference. The Midshipmen are coming off of a second-place finish at the President's Trophy Match against service academy counterparts Air Force, Army, and Coast Guard. In NCAA scoring, the Mids fell to the Falcons (L, 4721-4695), while defeating the Black Knights (W, 4695-4674).
 
Sophomore Isabella Baldwin leads the team in air rifle and aggregate scoring, while ranking second on the squad in smallbore. She boasts a 596.6 average in air rifle, while notching an 1181.4 in aggregate. Baldwin has an average of 584.8 in smallbore.
 
Senior Marleigh Duncan is atop the Navy standings in smallbore, while ranking second on the team in air rifle and aggregate. She has a team-best average score of 586.0 in smallbore, while notching a 590.6 in air rifle. Duncan's aggregate average is 1176.6.
 
Junior Parker Haydin is third on the team in both air rifle and combined scoring, while coming in fourth in smallbore. Haydin averages 580.8 in smallbore and 590.4 in air rifle for an aggregate tally of 1171.2.
 
Senior team captain Stephanie Milvain follows Haydin in both air rifle and aggregate, while finishing third behind Duncan in smallbore. Milvain has an average performance of 581.4 in smallbore with a 587.4 in air rifle. She has an aggregate score of 1168.8 midway through the 2024-25 season.
 
Sophomore Ryan Wee and senior Joshua Potts round out Navy's top five in each shooting category. Wee is fifth in smallbore (579.2) and aggregate (1165.2) with Potts tying Wee for fifth in air rifle (586.0). Potts is just behind Wee in smallbore (572.8) and aggregate (1158.8).
 
Juniors Catherine Dely, Grace Shepard, and Devin Uhrich, along with freshman Elizabeth Johnson and sophomore John Dely close out the scoring for the Midshipmen. C.Dely has averages of 570.7 (smallbore), 584.3 (air rifle), and 1155.0 (aggregate) in three competitions. Shepard has competed in four matches with tallies of 562.8 (smallbore), 584.3 (air rifle), and 1147.0 (aggregate). Uhrich has notched averages of 567.0 in smallbore, 575.6 in air rifle, and 1142.6 in aggregate, while Johnson has median performances of 565.3 (smallbore), 582.0 (air rifle), and 1147.3 (aggregate). J.Dely has competed in three matches with totals of 537.7 (smallbore), 549.7 (air rifle), and 1087.3 (aggregate).
 
Scouting Ohio State
Ohio State is 3-3 entering the weekend. Most recently, the Buckeyes fired a season high score of 4713 (Citadel mixed – 4610, Citadel women's – 4551) at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
 
The Buckeyes were led by Derek Keiser and Gabriella Sprague, who fired aggregate scores of 1181 and 1179, respectively. The 1179 was a career best for Sprague.
 
In smallbore, the team finished with a score of 2339 led by Keiser, who fired a match high score of 588. John Hamilton equaled his career best with a 586 while Gabriella Sprague (583), Lilly Warren (582), and Paige Hollowell (581) rounded out team scoring. Eva Horgan was Ohio State's only individual and she equaled her career best with a 573.
 
In air rifle, the team fired a season best score of 2374 led by a career best 596 from Gabriella Sprague. Paige Hollowell (593), Derek Keiser (593), Eva Horgan (592), and John Hamilton (587) rounded out a solid team performance. The 592 was also a career best for Eva Horgan. Lilly Warren fired as an individual and posted a season best 589.
 
Scouting Nebraska
The Huskers are 6-3 on the season. Last weekend, Nebraska took on No. 16 UTEP in the Huskers only home match of the season with NU earning a 4720-4,672 victory. Emma Rhode claimed titles in all three events, as she posted the second-highest scores in school history in both the smallbore (594) and aggregate (1190) and a season-high mark of 596 in the air rifle.
 
So far this season, NU has tied the fifth-highest team score in program history with its 4720. The team also posted the third-highest smallbore score in Nebraska history with a 2345 at Memphis on Oct. 5. Rhode has had a standout season, having posted the second-highest aggregate mark in school history with her 1190, along with the second-highest smallbore score with her 594 against UTEP. Her 594 in the smallbore tied for the highest smallbore mark that has been posted nationally during the 2024-25 season.
 
Scouting Akron
Akron is 5-2 overall and 0-1 in the GARC. Last time out, the Zips rifle team dropped a 4711-4675 decision at No. 13 Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 9.
 
In smallbore, Gavin Perkowski set a new season-high mark of 587 to headline Akron's efforts. Logan McClimans battled his way to an impressive 579, which tied him with Rachel Engels as the next two Zips on the leaderboard. Perkowski lead the squad in air rifle posting a team-best 593 score. He was followed by Engels and Rachael Paddock with like 589 totals.
 
For the season, Perkowski leads the Zips with an 1179.7 total in both rifles, while boasting a team-best average of 584.9 and 594.9 in smallbore and air rifle, respectively. Erin Schnupp follows with an 1172.3, while Poddock has an 1168.1.

Following the busy weekend, Navy resumes action in January when the Midshipmen travel to Morgantown, W.Va. for a match with top-ranked West Virginia.
