Men’s Tennis to Play Doubleheaders Saturday at Home, Sunday in Chicago

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will play a pair of opponents Saturday in Annapolis before traveling to Chicago, Ill., to play two more matches on Sunday  The Mids (12-2) will first face Morgan State (1-1) and Hofstra (2-4) at the Tose Family Tennis Center (10 a.m. / 2 p.m.) and then will play Western Michigan (6-3) and DePaul (4-4) at the XS Tennis Village near the DePaul campus (10 a.m. ET / 2:30 p.m. ET).

Navy Update (10-2)
The Mids ran their winning streak to four matches in a row with a pair of victories Sunday in Annapolis.  Navy posted a 6-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson and a 5-2 victory over Villanova.

The Navy-FDU match featured five singles matches going three sets.  The Mids then won four straight-set singles matches against the Wildcats.

Navy's doubles play continue to be strong on the day as the Mids won all six matches, three of which were decided by the score of 6-2 and an additional match having the final score of 6-3.

Morgan State Preview (1-1)
The Bears have played just two matches thus far this season as their additional matches on the schedule were canceled.  Morgan State opened the season with a 5-2 win over Hampton before losing by the same score to Long Island. 

Morgan State ended last season with a 6-12-1 record and a 4-1 regular season mark against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponents.  The second-seeded Bears lost to third-seeded North Carolina Central, 4-2, in the semifinal round of the MEAC Tournament.

Navy has won all previous 11 matches in the series with Morgan State.  This includes a 5-2 victory last season in Annapolis.

Hofstra Preview (2-4)
Hofstra has played four matches this season in which the final score was 4-3.  The Pride lost by that score to Quinnipiac and Bryant and defeated Marist and Lehigh by one point.  The team also dropped a 5-2 decision to fellow Coastal Athletic Association member Drexel (5-2) and lost to St. John's (4-0).

Hofstra posted a 7-12 record a year ago and finished the Colonial (now Coastal) Athletic Association regular season with a 0-3 record.  The ninth-seeded Pride won their first round match in the CAA Tournament before losing to top-seeded UNCW in the quarterfinal round.

Navy has won each of the three prior matches in the series. Those matches occurred in 1994, 2019 and last season.  The Mids defeated the Pride by the score of 7-0 last year in the Tose Family Tennis Center.

Western Michigan Preview (6-3)
Western Michigan heads into a Saturday match at DePaul with a 6-3 record this year.  The Broncos are on a four-match winning streak with those victories coming against Butler (7-0), Cornerstone (7-0), Illinois State (5-2) and Dayton (5-2).  WMU also has lost to Michigan State (6-1), Purdue (4-3) and Denver (5-2) and recorded wins over Ferris State (6-1) and Brown (5-2).

Western Michigan compiled a 13-10 record a year ago and posted an 8-2 record during the Mid-American Conference regular season.  The Broncos shared the MAC regular season title with Toledo, then the teams met in the championship match of the tournament.  The Rockets posted a 4-3 record in the match to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

This will mark the inaugural match of the teams.

DePaul Preview (4-4)
The Blue Demons have split their eight matches this season prior to playing their ninth opponent, Western Michigan, on Saturday.  DePaul's victories this year have come against Wisconsin (4-3), Furman (4-1), Army (4-1) and Texas-Arlington (4-3).  The Blue Demons have suffered losses to Michigan (6-1), Creighton (4-3), Boston College (4-0) and Louisiana (4-2).

DePaul tallied an 11-15 record in 2023, an overall mark that included a 2-4 record in matches against Big East Conference opponents.  The fifth-seeded Blue Demons lost to No. 4 Butler in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.

Sunday's match will be the first between the Mids and the Blue Demons.
