RICHMOND, Va. -- The Navy and Richmond men's tennis teams split a doubleheader Sunday in Richmond, Va.  The Spiders (9-3) won the first match by the score of 4-1 and the Mids (18-10) claimed the second match of the day by the score of 4-3.

Match 1 - Richmond 4, Navy 1
Navy had a good start to the day as it won the doubles point in the morning match.  The No. 1 tandem of Aniketh Ayinala and J.J. Etterbeek combined for a 6-3 win over Daniel Kliebhan and Paxton Pritchard in the first match to finish.  The Mids secured the point when their No. 3 team of Tommy Kim and Jake Young defeated Dylan Atkinson and Sebastian Miano by the score of 6-4.

The Spiders would win the first four singles matches to finish to rally for the victory.

Match 2 - Navy 4, Richmond 3
Navy also won the doubles point in the afternoon match.  Richmond's Grant Cohen and Nick Roddy defeated Graydon Buckingham and Aaron Gu, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles in the first match to finish.  Navy's No. 1 team of Luke Garner and Sasha Panyan won a 7-5 decision over Kliebhan and Pritchard to even the proceedings.  The point was decided when the Mids won at No. 2 doubles in a tiebreaker (9-7).  Winning the match for Navy was the duo of Herrick Legaspi and Nathan Nguyen over Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley.

Richmond won the first two singles matches to finish in straight sets to take a 2-1 lead.  It then became a 3-1 advantage for the Spiders when Kliebhan defeated Panyan in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.  Legaspi closed the deficit to 3-2 when he defeated Pritchard, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.   Nguyen kept Navy's hopes alive when he won in a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5), in his No. 4 singles match against Miano.  Completing Navy's rally was Garner with his 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Wiley at the No. 3 flight.
