ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Victories in seven events on Saturday solidified the hold on first place the Navy swimming and diving teams have at the ECAC Championship at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis.
Navy won the women's one-meter diving final plus the 200 medley and 800 free relay races, as well as the men's 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free and 800 free relay events.
The Mids have scored 571.5 points to lead the women's standings by 371.5 points and have amassed 616 points to pace the men's field by just under 300 points.
The championship concludes Sunday.
Women's One-Meter Diving
Mackenzie Kim scored 280.45 points to lead all divers in the championship final. Navy divers accounted for five of the eight spots in the event. Izzy Olson totaled 264.60 points to finish second,
Darby Ratcliffe posted 247.55 points to place fourth,
Sarah Gurley tallied a fifth-place score of 245.25 and
Alexandra Kwasniewski finished in seventh place with a score of 213.95.
200 Medley Relay
Navy started the evening off strong as it won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:42.72. The team was comprised of
Sydney Paglia,
Sydney Bare,
Tiffany Shields and
Samantha Clifford.
The men's team broke the meet record of 1:28.88, but had to settle for second place with a time of 1:28.19.
Simon Thompson,
Nolan Jess,
Lachlan Andrew and
Austin Lockhart finished one second behind Princeton.
400 Individual Medley
Marin Rose was the lone Navy women's swimmer to reach the championship final in the event. She placed eighth in the race with a time of 4:30.67.
On the men's side, Navy claimed all three podium spots.
Coleman Yates posted a time of 3:51.79 to better George Brooker's effort of 3:52.84. Both of those times beat the ECAC Meet record of 3:53.30. Earning the bronze medal was
Will Jones with his clocking of 3:54.53.
100 Butterfly
Navy qualified three swimmers to the A final in the women's event.
Jennifer Luong finished in third place with a time of 55.05, Shields placed fifth with her time of 55.34 and Paglia was one spot back in sixth place with her time of 55.97.
Andrew gave the men's team their second win of the evening as his time of 47.71 gave him the victory by just five-hundredths of a second. Teammate George McGovern finished in eighth place in a time of 49.21.
200 Freestyle
Clifford posted a time of 1:49.39 to finish in second place in the championship final. She was joined in the race by
Megan McGrath, who placed sixth in a time of 1:52.06.
Navy swimmers bettered their 400 IM results as Mids finished first, second, third and fourth. Leading the way was
Ben Mauldin in a winning time of 1:36.74.
Evan McKelvey followed in second place (1:37.14),
Kellan Pattison finished in third place (1:37.20) and Stephan Aguirre posted a fourth-place showing (1:37.89).
100 Breaststroke
Two Mids advanced from the morning trials to the evening championship final for the women. Bare finished in third place (1:02.06) and
Theresa Milio recorded an eighth-place finish (1:03.98).
Richie Trentalange posted a time of 52.82 to finish second in the men's final. Also advancing to the race was Jess, who finished in sixth place with his effort of 55.14.
100 Backstroke
Jackie Scheneman was the lone Mid to reach the women's final. She finished the race in a time of 56.74 to place third.
Three more Mids appeared in the men's final. Yates continued his strong session by posting a time of 49.01 to place fourth, one position in front of Thompson's time of 49.44.
Will Jones was the third Mid in the race and he placed eighth in a time of 50.71.
800 Freestyle Relay
The women's team bookended the day with relay event wins as the Mids posted a time of 7:31.80 to win the final by 1.5 seconds. Earning gold medals were
Georgia Yang, Rose, Clifford and McGrath.
The men's team also successfully ended the day as its team of Aguirre, Pattison, McKelvey and Mauldin recorded a time of 6:30.83 to beat the meet record by five seconds and tonight's field by almost 14 seconds.
