BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Six members of the Navy women's lacrosse team were named to the 2024 All-Patriot League Team announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. The Midshipmen tallied four first-team selections –
Tori DiCarlo (attack),
Emily Messinese (midfield),
Alyssa Daley (defense), and
Caroline Stefans (defense) – while also claiming a pair of second-team honors –
Lola Leone (attack) and
Mikayla Williams (midfield). Additionally, Williams was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
It is the third consecutive season that Navy has had four first-team all-conference selections, while Williams becomes the first Midshipmen to earn Rookie of the Year accolades since Kelly Larkin ('20) earned the honor as a plebe in 2017.
Overall, 34 student-athletes were selected to the two All-Patriot League teams with 16 voted onto the first team and 18 more earning a spot on the second team.
All 10 Patriot League teams were represented on the all-conference list. Loyola led the way with seven All-League selections, while Navy added six. Holy Cross and Lehigh boasted five apiece, while Army followed with four honorees. American, and Colgate each placed two on the All-League teams, while Boston University, Bucknell, and Lafayette rounded out the teams with one apiece.
Nineteen (19) of the 34 All-Patriot League selections are multi-year honorees. Of Navy's six honorees, five earned the honor for the first time in their Midshipmen career, while it was the second consecutive season that Messinese has been selected First Team All-Patriot League.
Patriot League women's lacrosse head coaches voted on the All-League teams and major awards. They were prohibited from voting for their student-athletes or themselves.
First Team All-Patriot League
Tori DiCarlo – Attacker | Jr. | 5-7 | Rosemont, Pa. | Radnor
Navy's top attacker on the year, DiCarlo finished the regular season with 65 points on 54 goals and 11 assists, leading the team with 13 free-position goals made, while adding 16 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. The junior concluded the regular season ranked in the top 15 in the Patriot League in free position percentage (3), free position goals per game (5), goals (5), goals per game (7), points (10), points per game (11), and shot percentage (13). DiCarlo scored at least one goal in 16 straight games with 15 multiple goal performances (in 17 total games) with 13 hat tricks, including multiple goals in all nine Patriot League games with hat tricks in seven conference games.
Emily Messinese – Midfielder | Jr. | 5-4 | Manchester, Md. | Gerstell Academy
Messinese claimed First Team All-Patriot League distinction for the second time in her career. The junior led Navy with 77 points on a team-high 59 goals, while adding 18 assists, 61 draw controls, 19 ground balls, and five caused turnovers. Messinese, who was an Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American earlier in the year, ranked in the top 15 in the Patriot League in goals (4), goals per game (4), points (7), free position percentage (8), points per game (9), free position goals per game (10), draw controls per game (11), and assists (13). During the year, she became the 21st player in program history with 100 or more points (currently 143); 15th Mid with 100 or more goals (113); 13th with 100 or more career draws controls (135).
Alyssa Daley – Draw Control / Defense | Jr. | 5-8 | Walkersville, Md. | Middletown
A draw control specialist, Daley earned her first postseason all-conference recognition. The junior finished the regular season with a Navy school record 167 draw controls, beating the previous record by 14. Daley, who was an Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American earlier in the year, ranked fifth in the NCAA and second in the Patriot League in draw controls per game, while helping the team lead the NCAA in draw controls percentage (.690) and close out the regular season in second in draw controls per game (19.00). Daley finished the year with six double-digit draw control performances including three that ranked in Navy's top 5 single-game performances – a career-best 17 against Holy Cross and Army and 16 versus American.
Caroline Stefans – Defense | Sr. | 5-7 | Coral Springs, Fla. | St. Thomas Aquinas
After missing the 2023 season with a knee injury, Stefans returned to lead the Navy defense for her final season. The senior anchored a Midshipmen defense that held 12 opponents (six Patriot League) to single digit goals, while leading the squad in caused turnovers (20) and ranking first on the team in ground balls (28). Stefans, who registered a Patriot League best three Defensive Player of the Week honors (Feb. 12; Feb. 26; and March 18), was vital in the transition game, helping Navy to a 93.1 clearing percentage (271 of 291), which ranked fifth (5th) in the NCAA and first (1st) in the Patriot League.
Second Team All-Patriot League
Lola Leone – Attacker | Jr. | 5-5 | Bay Shore, N.Y. | Bay Shore
Leone finished the 2024 regular season with 43 points on 37 goals and six assists, while adding 21 ground balls and six caused turnovers. She finished the regular season ranked in the top five for Navy in goals (3rd), game-winning goals (3rd), free-position goals (3rd), and points (4th). The junior attacker scored goals in 14 of 17 games with 13 multi-goal performances (eight in Patriot League games), including eight hat tricks (five in Patriot League games).
Mikayla Williams – Midfielder | Fr. | 5-4 | Bexley, Ohio | Bexley
Williams proved to be one of the Midshipmen's most valuable assets throughout her inaugural season. The freshman played and started all 17 games, finishing the regular season with 38 points on 23 goals and 15 assists, while adding 41 draw controls, 28 ground balls, and 12 caused turnovers. During the year, Williams earned a spot on the Inside Lacrosse Women's Early Season Impact Freshman Rankings, coming in at No. 13. She was the only freshman this season with multiple Patriot League Rookie of the Week accolades, claiming the honor a conference-best four times (Feb. 12, March 11, April 15, April 29).
