Navy Women’s Basketball Announces Freshmen Recruiting Class: Mary Gibbons

Mids welcome three recruited freshmen to the program

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's basketball program under the direction of fifth-year head coach Tim Taylor is pleased to introduce a talented trio of freshmen, who will be joining the team for this upcoming 2024-25 season. The Class of 2028 consists of three recruited student-athletes from the east coast. Over this week, each recruit will be profiled; today we shine a light on Mary Gibbons from Holden, Massachusetts.

A multi-talented guard from Massachusetts, Gibbons has thrived on the court whether it be for her Wachusetts Regional High School team or for the Bay State Jaguars AAU team. A 1,000-point scorer with a penchant for shooting the three-ball, Gibbons immediately made an impact at Wachusetts in 2021 with a spot on the Worcester Telegram & Gazette All-Star Team following her freshman season. Her career trajectory really took off the next year as she led Wachusetts to the Massachusetts Division I State Championship Semifinal after going 23-1 and averaging 16.9 points per game; Gibbons was selected as the Midland Wachusett (Mid-Wach) A League MVP in 2022. She continued her explosive scoring and tallied over 18.5 points per game for her next two seasons as she was repeated as the Mid-Wach A League MVP in 2023 and 2024. In recognition of her standout senior season, Gibbons was named the 2023-24 Telegram & Gazette, Massachusetts MaxPreps, the MBCA Division I, the MBCA Massachusetts State Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Gibbons and her Wachusett Regional High School went 77-5 during her four years with head coach Jim Oxford's program. Three times the team reached the Massachusetts State Final Four. All-time, she scored 1,456 points and sank 217 three-point baskets.

The daughter of Thomas and Amanda, she suited up in club competition on the Under Armour circuit for the Bay State Jaguars and head coach Laurie Bollin.

"We are thrilled to add Mary Gibbons to our program," remarked Taylor. "She is an outstanding shooter with unlimited range and a knack for making a lot of shots in a short period of time. Her ability to stretch the floor will help us immensely. Mary has a quick first step which allows her to use her craftiness to score around the rim. She comes from a basketball family as well as playing for the Bay State Jaguars program, which has helped develop many college players through the years. I am excited to add her competitive basketball IQ and energy to our program."
