Scouting the Midshipmen
Navy enters the weekend 12-6 overall and 5-0 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference.
Kiefer Black leads the team with 71 points on a team-high 44 goals and team-best 27 assists. He is followed by
Aiden Day and
James Mulvey who have 38 and 36 points, respectively. Day has 21 goals and 17 assists, while Mulvey has 21 goals and 15 assists.
Quinn Bartlett,
Connor Cashman, and
Luka Sekulic are all tied at 24 points apiece. Sekulic has his 24 points on 17 goals and seven assists, while Bartlett has 16 goals and eight helpers for his 24 points. Cashman is tied for second on the team with 21 goals with three assists for his 24 points.
Aiden Berry and
Orion Erwin round out Navy's 20-point performers. Berry has 21 points on 15 scores with six assists, while Erwin has 21 points on a balanced 12 goals and nine helpers.
Rory Begin (11g 8a),
Ramsay Letteau Stallings (10g 9a), and
Matt Mai-Prasarnsuk (10g 9a) are two points back with 19 points each to close out the Mids' top 10 scorers.
Defensively, Navy has used three goalkeepers –
Ryan Munch,
Jack Rodoni, and
Jack Hightower – through the season. Munch leads the team with 81 saves, while Rodoni and Hightower follow with 34 and 26 stops, respectively.
Munch leads the team with 25 steals with
Jack Mason, Berry, and Black following with 17, 16, and 15 takeaways, correspondingly.
Holden Seybold and Letteau Stallings round out Navy's top five in takeaways with 13 apiece, while Rodoni is one back with 12.
Billy Zech leads the team with 25 ejections drawn with
Maddox Garrahy,
Jack Reif, and Seybold following with 24, 23, and 23, individually. Black follows with 16 to round out the top five. Bartlett is just outside of the Midshipmen's top five this season in ejections drawn with 14 and Erwin has 13 to close out Navy's double-digit performers in kickouts drawn.
Scouting the Opposition
The Rams enter the weekend 10-1 overall with an 4-0 mark in conference play. Fordham has defeated all four conference foes it has faced – Mercyhurst (W, 31-7), Bucknell (W, 24-13), Mount St. Mary's (W, 19-5), and Wagner (W, 21-9) – by double digits. Additionally, the nationally-ranked Rams have posted four wins against teams that are ranked or receiving votes with their only blemish on the season coming against #1 UCLA (L, 16-9). Fordham will play Iona, who is receiving votes in the latest national poll, prior to taking on Navy.
Milestone Watch
Kiefer Black began the 2025 season with 296 points on 162 goals and 134 assists. With 13 points at the Triton Invitational, he became the seventh player in program history with 300 or more career points. The junior currently has 367 points on 206 goals and 161 assists.
Black enters the weekend in third place in program history with 367 points and is two (2) points back of Doug Munz ('95) who is second with 369. Navy head coach
Luis Nicolao ('92) is the program's all-time leader in points with 377.
Additionally, with 17 goals at the Navy Open, the San Diego native entered Navy's all-time top 10 in career goals. On Sept. 27 against Mount St. Mary's, Black became the eighth player in program history with 200 or more goals. With 206 goals entering the weekend, he ranks seventh and is 12 goals shy of Joe Donahue ('04) who stands in sixth-place with 218 goals and is 16 scores shy of Tom Temple ('88) who finished his career with 222.
The junior is already the all-time assists leader in Navy history with 161, passing Tom Popp ('89) who had 139 career helpers for the record.
Last season, Black registered his second consecutive 100-point season (125 points in 2023; 171 points in 2024), joining Nicolao (118 point in 1990; 114 points in 1991) and Munz (113 points in 1993; 184 points in 1994) as the only players in program history with multiple 100-point seasons. Eighteen (18) games into the 2025 season, Black has 71 points on 44 goals and 27 assists.

Following the game this weekend, the Midshipmen head to Erie, Pa. for three games, including a pair of MAWPC contests. Navy will play at Mercyhurst and against Gannon on Saturday, Oct. 18 before concluding the weekend against Bucknell on Sunday, Oct. 19. All three games will be played at the Hallman Aquatic Center.
