ANNAPOLIS, Md. // Freshman golfer
Hudson Mitchell (Pensacola, Fla.) has been named the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week after playing an instrumental role in Navy's' 6-5 victory over the Black Knights in the annual Army-Navy men's golf Star Match played over the weekend at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
Making his first appearance in the annual Star Match, Mitchell was responsible for two of the six points in the Mids' winning effort. He paired up with
Ed Scott in Saturday's four-ball competition where they dominated Drew Jeffords and Grant Paolucci to take the first point in the match by way of a 5&4 victory. On Sunday, he again scored a victory for the Mids as he dealt Griffin Garvin a 3&1 loss in the first match of the day.
Mitchell was the only Navy golfer to earn both a four-ball and singles victory over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Navy claimed the program's first Star win against their archrival since 2021, while the victory also marked the school's 1,200th win over Army with the Mids now leading the all-time overall series 1,200-918-46.
Navy returns to tournament action Oct. 20-22 when it makes the trip to Glen Cove, N.Y. to take part in the 54-hole Nassau Invitational played at the Nassau Country Club.
