All-Time Series
Navy leads the all-time series between the two teams, 8-0. The Midshipmen are 4-0 against the Griffins at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Last season, Navy posted a 17-10 victory over Chestnut Hill on the road. The last time the two teams met in Annapolis, the Mids bested the Griffins, 48-7, in 2023.
Scouting the Midshipmen
Navy enters the weekend 3-0 on the season. The Mids cruised to a 50-7 victory over Mansfield in their last outing. The Midshipmen have outscored their opponents 118-21 with nine rushing touchdowns and six passing TDs.
The offense has accounted for 1,050 yards of total offense with 569 yards on the ground and 481 through the air. The Mids are averaging 350.0 yards per game and 6.3 yards per play.
Hunter Gennicks leads the rushing attack with 402 yards through three games with four rushing touchdowns. The junior is averaging 134.0 yards per game and 7.7 yards per carry. He is followed by
Broderick Freeman who has 105 yards on the ground with a pair of TDs. Starting quarterback
Luke O'Connell is 29-for-47 for 443 ayrds and five touchdowns, while rushing the ball eight times for 65 yards and a TD.
Jake Berger leads the team with 193 receiving yards on a team-high 10 receptions with a touchdown. He is followed by
Grant Sterchi who has 176 yards receiving with three TD catches. Gennicks has added 36 yards receiving on six grabs with a TD, while
Jon Malatesta also adds a receiving TD.
Defensively, the Mids have held its opponents to just 179.7 yards per game and 21 total points (7.0 per game). Navy has recorded 31 tackles for loss with eight sacks, while picking off five passes, breaking up 10 pass attempts, and adding six fumble recoveries.
Jake Wolinski,
Connor Miltenberger, and
Sam Stotler lead the team in tackles. Wolinski has a team-high 23 tackles, while Miltenberger and Stotler follow with 20 apiece. Stotler leads the team with 6.5 TFLs with Wolinski and
Mick Tabor adding 4.0 tackles for loss apiece. Tyler Meisenzhal has a team high 2.0 sacks with Miltenberger adding 1.5 sacks. Wolinski and
Owen Erker lead the team with two interceptions each, while
Tucker Opdahl adds a pick. Six different Mids have forced a fumble with six Navy players picking up fumble recoveries.
Scouting the Opponent
Chestnut Hill enters the weekend 3-1 with wins against Caldwell (W, 42-35), Cornell (W, 34-12), and Molloy (W, 41-7), while dropping the season opener against Army (L, 27-21). The Griffins have won three straight games heading into the contest with the Midshipmen.
Offensively, Xavier Limehouse leads the rushing attack with 400 yards on the ground and a team-high six touchdowns, while Lawrence Howard V (116 yards) and Folley Tarley (102) follow with 100-plus rushing yards on the season. Anthony Cancellare is 49-for-79 for 999 yards and nine touchdowns through the air. Cancellare's primary targets are Kyree Griffin and Aiden Neff who have 13 and 14 receptions, respectively. Griffin leads the team with 315 yards with Neff adding 254. Winday Dawson has a team-high three TD receptions with Griffin adding one and Neff adding a pair.
Defensively, Lex Williams leads the team with 34 total tackles, while Cam Goldsmith adds 27 stops. Torey Moore and Amir Jenkins round out Griffin's 20-tackle performers with 23 and 20, correspondingly. Goldsmith leads the team with 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks, while Hunter Oaks and Justin Oppong pace the squad with one interception each.
Athlete of the Week
The CSFL announced its weekly accolades and Navy's
Jake Berger was recognized as Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Midshipmen's victory over Mansfield. Berger helped lead Navy to a 50-7 victory over Mansfield on Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The sophomore wide receiver was responsible for a pair of touchdowns, finishing with seven receptions for 128 yards and a receiving TD, while adding a special team's touchdown.
On the opening kickoff, Navy's
Tucker Opdahl forced a Mansfield fumble that Berger recovered and ran 30 yards into the end zone to put the Mids up 7-0 just seven seconds into the game. Berger added a 50-yard touchdown reception for the longest catch of his short career. In addition to the 50-yard reception, the wide receiver also added catches of 28, 19, 13, nine, six, and three yards.

Leading late in the fourth quarter, Navy defensive back
Seamas Carrasco picked off a Chestnut Hill pass to help preserve the Mids' 17-10 victory over the Griffins at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium (Conshohocken Field "A").
The Mids did not lead until the 5:30 mark in the fourth quarter when the Midshipmen broke a 10-10 tie with a
Luke Wagner rush for a 15-yard touchdown. On the ensuing drive, the Griffins were methodically marching down the field, but Carrasco's interception with 73 seconds on the clock secured the Navy win.
As a team, Navy finished the game with 20 first downs compared to 14 by Chestnut Hill. The Mids out rushed the Griffins, 249-140. The passing yards was nearly even with Chestnut Hill edging Navy through the air, 99-91. Both teams turned the ball over twice with Navy losing a fumble and throwing an interception, while Chestnut Hill tossed a pair of picks, including Carrasco's game securing INT.
Wagner finished the game with 130 yards rushing to go along with 91 yards through the air. The senior offensive captain scored the go-ahead touchdown – a 15-yard sprint into the end zone in the fourth quarter. Wagner completed 12 passes to eight different receivers on the night.
Chris Stumpf led the team with 41 yards receiving on a pair of catches, including a long of 37.
Jake Berger led the team with three catches, finishing with 14 yards.
Biamungu Nkere added a pair of receptions for 12 yards.
Hunter Gennicks was credited with 54 yards on the ground, while
Broderick Freeman and
Manny Walt added 20 and 16, respectively. Walt joined Wagner with a rushing touchdown.
Defensively,
Jonathan Swift led the team with nine solo stops, including a pair of tackles for loss.
Jake Wolinski added eight tackles with
Simon Burger following with six stops and an interception.
Angelo Pearson led the team with a pair of pass breakups, while
Tyler Cox and Carrasco each broke up passes.
Jacori Sutton finished the game with a 25-yard field goal, that tied the game at 10-10 in the fourth quarter, helping Navy's come-from-behind victory.
