Women’s Rugby Travels to West Point for Star Game

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's rugby team (3-4, 3-3 National Intercollegiate Rugby Association) travels to West Point, N.Y., on Saturday to face Army (5-2, 5-2 NIRA) at the Anderson Rugby Complex in the annual Star Game, part of the overall Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. Kickoff is set for noon.

2025-26 Army-Navy Series
Saturday's game marks the seventh Star Game of the 2025-26 Army-Navy series. The Black Knights lead the series 3-2-1 with wins in volleyball (3-1), men's soccer (4-0) and women's cross country (15-46). Navy's victories came in men's golf (6-5) and men's cross country (26-29).

Last Time Out: at Wheeling
Navy dropped a non-conference game of the season to reigning National Collegiate Rugby national champion Wheeling, 37-14, last week in Wheeling, W. Va.
 
The two teams each scored tries in the first five minutes of the game. Grace McDonald accounted for Navy's try, followed by a Mia Young conversion.
 
Wheeling held a 17-7 halftime lead, then scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to pull away.
 
Navy Notes
  • Aliyah Alexander, Michaela Schwappach and Marrisa Wilfhart each made their season debut against Wheeling.
  • McDonald's try against Wheeling marked the first of her collegiate career.
  • Spencer recorded her third try of the season, matching the career-best total she posted in 2024.
  • Navy ranks sixth in the NIRA Power Rankings with a 3-2 conference record. The Mids have scored 148 points (24.7 per game) in league play.
  • Young added two conversions last week and now leads the team with 10. She also has two tries this season and a team-high 30 points.
  • Caroline Shegogue has played in all seven games this season and leads the squad with five tries.
 
Scouting Army
  • Army enters the game with a 5-2 record with all seven games coming against NIRA opponents. The Black Knights are riding a three-game winning streak and have outscored their last three opponents by a combined 169-17. That stretch includes shutouts of Brown (60-0) and Davenport (69-0).
  • The team's only losses came to Lindenwood in the season opener (34-22) and the defending NIRA national champion-Harvard (32-17).
  • Army is currently ranked fourth in the NIRA Power Rankings. The Black Knights are second in both total points scored (252) and point differential (+169).
  • Kicker Alissa Eisenhart leads the team with 77 points, including 33 conversions. Cassidy Ball has a team-best eight tries to total 40 points.
 
Navy vs. Army
  • Army holds a 3-0 lead in the all-time series, including a 42-22 win in West Point two seasons ago.
  • The teams met twice during the 2024-25 season — once in 15s and once in 7s — with Army winning both matchups, 41-0 (15s) and 22-0 (7s).
