GARC Championship on Deck for Navy Rifle

Action will get underway Saturday with the smallbore competition, followed by the air rifle portion of the championship taking place on Sunday.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy rifle team (14-5) returns to action this weekend as the team travels to Morgantown, W.Va. to take part in the annual Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championship hosted by West Virginia University at the WVU Rifle Range.
 
Action will get underway Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with the smallbore competition, followed by an 9:00 a.m. start on Sunday for the air rifle portion of the championship. Free live results for both days of competition will be available via NavySports.com.
 
GARC Championship History
A member of the GARC since the 2014-15 season, the Mids' top aggregate finish came in 2018, finishing third overall. Last season, Navy finished fifth overall at the GARC Championship.
 
Navy saw its best finishes at the smallbore portion of the championship come during the 2017 and 2020 seasons with a pair of third-place marks.
 
In air rifle competition, the Midshipmen tied for third place in 2022 for their best finish in the discipline at the event.
 
The Field
Joining the Midshipmen among the GARC Championship field will be fellow conference members Akron, Army, Kentucky, Memphis, and West Virginia.
 
NCAA Championship Bound
The NCAA Men's and Women's Rifle Committee announced the teams and individual qualifiers for the 2025 NCAA Rifle Championship, which is hosted by the University of Kentucky at Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Ky. on March 14-15. Navy's Marleigh Duncan qualified as an individual in smallbore. Additionally, teammate Stephanie Milvain was named an alternate in smallbore.
 
In the team competition, Air Force, Alaska Fairbanks, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Murray State, Ole Miss, TCU, and West Virginia all earned spots in the NCAA Championship.
 
Duncan was joined by Nebraska's Maddy Moyer and Emma Rhode, along with Erin Schnupp of Akron as individual qualifiers in smallbore. Milvain and Gabriela Zych (Memphis) were alternates in smallbore.
 
In air rifle, Army's Addison Antwiler, Morehead State's Hayden Bell, Nebraska's Maddy Moyer, Ohio State's Gabriella Sprague, and UTEP's Carlee Valenta qualified as individuals with Emma Rhode (Nebraska) and Kenlee Ewton (Memphis) serving as alternates.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
Last weekend, Navy registered a 4717-4296 victory over John Jay at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range in the NCAA Qualifier. The match was the final home competition for Navy's three seniors.
 
Sophomore Isabella Baldwin leads the team in all three scoring categories – smallbore, air rifle, and aggregate. She boasts a 587.1 average smallbore, while registering a 596.2 in air rifle for an 1183.3 average in aggregate.
 
Senior Marleigh Duncan second to Baldwin in each discipline. She has an average score of 586.1 in smallbore, while notching a 592.8 in air rifle. Duncan's aggregate average is 1178.8.
 
Junior Parker Haydin is third on the team in air rifle and combined, while coming in fourth in smallbore. Haydin averages 581.7 in smallbore and 591.9 in air rifle for an aggregate tally of 1173.6.
 
Senior team captain Stephanie Milvain follows Haydin in both air rifle and aggregate, while finishing third behind Duncan in smallbore. Milvain has an average performance of 583.2 in smallbore with a 589.0 in air rifle. She has an aggregate score of 1172.2.
 
Sophomore Ryan Wee and senior Joshua Potts round out Navy's top five in each shooting category. Wee is fifth in smallbore (581.2) and aggregate (1167.9) with Potts posting a 588.3 for fifth in air rifle. Potts is behind Wee in aggregate (1161.7) and seventh overall in smallbore (573.6), while Wee has an air rifle tally of 587.0.
 
Junior Catherine Dely is between Wee and Potts in smallbore (573.6), while following the duo in air rifle (585.8) and aggregate (1158.7). Junior Devin Uhrich and sophomore Chelsie Glover will also be making the trip to Morgantown for the Midshipmen. Uhrich has averages of 569.2 (smallbore), 581.1 (air rifle), and 1149.7 (aggregate), while Glover has registered averages of 565.4 (smallbore), 579.0 (air rifle), and 1145.4 (aggregate).

Following the GARC Championship, Duncan and Milvain will travel to the 2025 NCAA Rifle Championship, which is hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. Duncan qualified as an individual in smallbore, while Milvain will serve as an alternate in smallbore. Individual and team competitions in smallbore three-position (60 shots) will be held Friday, March 14.
