ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Navy women's track & field team finished second at the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday afternoon at Wesley Brown Field House. Boston won the title with 166 points, while Navy finished second with 148.5 points. Army placed third with 139.5 points.
"Hats off to Boston, they had a great meet," said Naval Academy Director of Track & Field
Jamie Cook. "I thought we were pretty good in some areas and a little bit down in some areas. I thought we gave great effort, but we just have to improve a little bit in some areas and I have to improve a little bit in some areas. We will move on and hopefully we will be stronger because of this."
Senior
Taylor Woodworth won the 400 meters in a school record and Wesley Brown Field House record time of 54.28, while sophomore
Sophia Richter was fifth in a time of 56.27. Senior
Kylie Bedard placed eighth in a time of 57.06.
Woodworth also led the 4x400 meter relay team to a first-place finish in a time of 3:46.18, the sixth-fastest time in school history, with the help of Richter,
Savannah Swanda and Bedard.
"I'm really happy for
Taylor Woodworth," said Cook. "She has put a lot of hard work in."
Junior
Jia Anderson won the 60-meter hurdles for the third-straight year, winning the race in a time of 8.53, which is the ninth-fastest time in school history. Senior
Annie Lemelin was fifth in a time of 8.82.
Anderson was fourth in the 200 meters in a time of 24.83, while Lemelin was fifth in a time of 24.87.
Anderson also placed sixth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.69, while freshman
Savannah Swanda was seventh in a time of 7.83.
"
Jia Anderson had a really strong meet, winning the hurdles for the third-straight year and placing in three events," said Cook.
The Distance Medley relay team of
Kate Leddy,
Elektra Sanchez,
Katelyn Pepin and
Alex Wercinski finished first in a time of 11:42.16, which is the third fastest time in school history.
Junior
Sophie Compton finished fourth in the mile in a time of 4:40.87, the third fastest time in school history, while Leddy was seventh in a time of 4:51.58.
Compton also finished third in the 3000 meters in a time of 9:36.02, which is the ninth fastest time in school history.
Olivia Lutkevich finished seventh in a time of 9:46.78.
Wercinksi finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.47, the eighth fastest time in school history.
Freshman
Zoie Tesi tied for third in the high jump with a leap of 5-5, while freshman
Farrah Eike placed sixth at 5-5.
Senior
Sami Bollinger finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 38-4.
"I thought the atmosphere the last two days at Wesley Brown was good," said Cook. "When you are running a meet like this there is a lot that goes into it but I thought we did a really good job of hosting the meet and I got a lot of compliments from other coaches."
