Box Score 2 ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team won a 7-0 decision over Coppin State and lost a 6-1 match to Brown on Saturday. The Mids (13-12) faced the Eagles (0-7) in Baltimore and played the Bears (15-5) in Providence.
Additionally, Sunday's home match against Temple has been moved indoors to the Tose Family Tennis Center due to the expected weather conditions in Annapolis.
Navy swept the three doubles matches from Coppin State to take an early 1-0 lead.
Herrick Legaspi and
Charlie Spencer played the closest match as the No. 1 duo edged Harsh Kheterpal and Liam Murtaugh by the score of 7-5. Also,
Jason Kim and
Tommy Kim registered a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles over Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov and the No. 3 tandem of
Graydon Buckingham and
Zach Quattro posted a 6-3 win over Dentry Mortimer and Tinashe Whata.
The Mids would win all six singles matches from the Eagles in straight sets. Legaspi (No. 1),
Tommy Kim (No. 2),
Jason Kim (No. 3) and Spencer (No. 4) all earned a second victory on the day with their respective singles play.
Each of the three doubles matches between the Mids and the Bears finished with the identical score of 6-4. Brown, whose only losses this season have been to teams appearing in this week's national rankings, won all three matches against Navy.
The Bears then won three straight-set singles matches and five matches in all to secure the win. Navy's point was recorded by
George Cutone, who defeated Noah Hernandez, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 6 singles. Playing three-set matches were
Jake Young at No. 3 (2-6, 6-3, 6-1) and J.J. Etternbeek at No. 4 (4-6, 6-4, 6-1).
In addition to Sunday's 1 p.m. match at home against Temple, Navy also will play against Boston University in a 10 a.m. match at Harvard.
