Navy men's lacrosse standout
AJ Marsh (So / D / Reisterstown, Md.) is among the first round of additions to the 2025 Tewaaraton Award Men's Watch List presented by Stifel it was announced Thursday by the Tewaaraton Foundation. One of 12 players added to the watch list on Thursday, Marsh is Navy's first played to be named to the watch list since Patrick Skalniak in 2022.
A 2024 Second-Team All-Patriot League selection, Marsh he has emerged as one of the top close defensemen in the country. One of the most talented players at Navy in recent history, Marsh commands respect on both ends of the field. He has taken over the role has Navy's leader in the transition game where he presents a threat up the middle. The second-year player has scored 3 goals and added an assist this season. He stands 9th on Navy's all-time career points list for poles (D/LSM) with 9 points, while his 5 goals are tied for 7th.
He's coming off a strong defensive performance that saw the Mids hold Boston University to a single goal in the first 41-plus minutes of play. Navy built a 5-0 lead before the Terriers finally got on the scoreboard nearly seven minutes into the second quarter. The Mids then held BU without a goal for the next 19-plus minutes as Navy pushed out to an 11-1 lead with 4:18 left in the third quarter. Remarkably, it had been 16 games since BU was last held without a goal in any quarter and that team was also Navy (March, 2, 2024).
Marsh, who was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for his performance, matched up against the Terriers' second-leading scorer Jimmy Kohr who came into the contest ranked 19th nationally in goals per game (3.25). Marsh held Kohr to a single goal and a pair of assists with the goal coming on extra man. He also matched his career high with 5 ground balls and recorded a personal-best 2 caused turnovers.
Marsh is one of eight players to represent the Patriot League on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, joining first-round additions Hunter Drouin of Colgate and Sean Byrne of Army, along with preseason selections Evan Plunkett, AJ Pilate and Will Coletti of Army, Max Yates of Colgate and Richard Checo of Lehigh.
Recognized as the most prized award in college lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award Foundation released its initial Watch List of 50 players on Feb. 6. In addition to the first round of additions announced today, a second round will be announced on March 27. The field, however, will be narrowed to 25 nominees on April 17 and the five finalists will be announced in early May and invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C. set for May 29.
