ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy swimming and diving programs combined for eight recipients of the Academic All-District honor presented by the College Sports Communicators.
Earning the accolade from the men's team were
Jake Douberly,
Ben Irwin,
Evan McKelvey and
Zack Peng, while
Erin Miller,
Clarice Spencer,
Viviana Vergara-Anglim and
Georgia Yang are the women's swimmers who received the laurel.
Irwin also has been selected for Academic All-America consideration.
Honorees needed to be at least a sophomore in the classroom and athletically, carry a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 and either compete in at least five competitions during the regular season or place among the top eight in an event at the conference championship.
Douberly, who served as the men's team captain this year, carries a 3.81 GPA as an operations research major. He placed eighth in the 400 IM at this year's Patriot League meet.
Irwin has posted a 3.65 GPA and also is majoring in operations research. He scored the most points of any men's swimmer at the Patriot League Championship as he won the 200 back and 200 fly and finished in second place in the 100 back. Irwin set Navy records in both backstroke events and lowered his own league record in the 100 back at last week's NCAA Championship.
McKelvey is a physics major with a 3.86 GPA. He competed in all 15 of Navy's dual meets this season and won the 100 and 200 free titles at the ECAC Championship.
Peng, who carries a 3.86 GPA as a chemistry major, competed in every dual meet and placed 10th on both diving boards at this year's Patriot League Championship.
Miller also is a chemistry major and she has posted a 3.92 GPA. She placed fourth in the 200 free, 11th in the 500 free and 13th in the 100 free at the Patriot League Championship.
Spencer has tallied a 3.66 GPA as an operations research major. She competed in all 14 dual meets this season and finished in ninth place in the 200 fly, 14th place in the 100 fly and 21st place in the 200 IM at the ECAC Championship.
Vergara-Anglim is a political science major with a 3.97 GPA. She also was in every dual meet lineup and placed 11th in the 200 IM, 16th in the 200 free and 28th in the 100 free at the ECAC Championship.
Yang has compiled a 3.96 GPA as a foreign area studies (Middle East) major. She took part in every regular season meet and placed fifth in the 400 IM, 12th in the 200 fly and 18th in the 200 IM at the ECAC Championship.
