ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball head coach
Chuck Ristano announced Wednesday the hiring of former Atlanta Braves draft pick Andrew Moritz as director of baseball operations.
"I can't thank Coach Ristano and the staff enough for the opportunity to work with the Navy baseball program," said Moritz. "It is an honor to work at such a prestigious and historic institution filled with great tradition. I am very excited to get started at the Naval Academy and I'm looking forward to contributing to the continued pursuit of excellence with the baseball program. Go Navy! Beat Army!"
"I am thrilled to have Andrew on board as the newest member of our staff," said Ristano. "He brings a broad and extensive skillset to the operations position, while his playing experience at both the collegiate level and in professional baseball will bring a unique perspective to our program. More than anything, he is someone who understands many of the unique and special distinctions that separates the academy from any other institution, and he is absolutely the right fit for our team. Andrew is someone of tremendous character who has already jumped into the academy experience with both feet."
Moritz arrives in Annapolis after spending the 2025 season as an assistant coach at Division II Missouri Western, helping produce three All-MIAA selections during his lone year with the Griffons. He also previously spent time as an assistant coach at his alma-mater, Providence High School, in Charlotte, N.C.
Prior to Missouri Western, Moritz spent six years playing professional baseball, including parts of five seasons within the Atlanta Braves organization. Drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Braves, Moritz reached as high as Double-A Mississippi, where he was named Southern League Player of the Week on Sept. 11, 2022 and was selected as an MiLB Organizational All-Star for the 2022 season.
Collegiately, Moritz played three seasons at UNC-Greensboro for now-Florida State head coach Link Jarrett. With the Spartans, Moritz collected numerous national accolades, including an impressive 2018 campaign that saw him named an ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-American, a D1Baseball.com Second Team All-American and a Baseball America and Perfect Game/Rawlings Third Team All-American. Additionally, Moritz was a three-time All-Southern Conference selection, the 2018 Southern Conference Player of the Year, a 2017 NCAA Clemson Regional All-Tournament Team honoree and a 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.
In the classroom, the Charlotte, N.C. native was named a CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American in 2017 and took home Second-Team Academic All-America distinction in 2018.
Moritz also spent the 2017 summer playing for the Cape Cod League's Harwich Mariners alongside former Navy ace Noah Song.
A 2021 graduate of UNCG, Moritz earned his bachelor's degree in business administration.
Moritz takes over for Courtney Caswell, who has accepted the Director of Football Finance position at Florida State.
