ANNAPOLIS, Md. – For the second consecutive week, senior
Marlee Heaven of the women's soccer team has been named the Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Student-Athlete of the Week, it was announced Monday.
After netting the game-winning scores in Navy's first two wins of the season, Heaven continued her scoring streak into the second week of the campaign, tallying the last-minute, game-winning goal in Navy's 1-0 win over Wofford on Thursday to push the Mids to a 3-0 start.
Scoring the game-winner for the third-straight Navy victory, Heaven played 71 minutes Thursday in the win over Wofford and headed home the deciding goal with 58 seconds remaining in the game. The senior forward also played 69 minutes in Sunday's contest with Delaware, recording three shots.
Navy's 3-0 start was the program's best since a four-game winning streak to begin the 2009 campaign. For Heaven, her three-game goal streak was the first for Navy since
Alexa Riddle scored in three-straight games from Oct. 8-16, 2021, while her three-straight game-winners were the most by a Navy player since Ash Fairow scored the game-winning goal in three consecutive games from Sept. 27-Oct. 7, 2017.
Now sitting at 3-1 on the young season, Navy will close out its four-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon, taking on Marywood in a 4 p.m. match at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
Tuesday's meeting will be the first all-time meeting between the schools. A member of the Division III Atlantic East Conference, Tuesday will count as an exhibition match for Marywood, who open the 2025 regular-season campaign on Friday. The Pacers' 2024 season saw the squad go 15-4-2 (5-0-1 AEC), winning the Atlantic East championship and earning a berth in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship.
