BETHLEHEM, PA.  // Navy's Chip Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.) has been named the Patriot League Men's Golfer of the Week following his 16th-place finish at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup earlier this week. Deegan, who is the first Navy men's golfer this season to earn the weekly Patriot League honor, has garnered the award four times during his collegiate career.

Deegan was the top-finishing service academy player in the tournament and one of seven golfers who received a special invitation to play as an individual in the team-scored event held at Shoreacres in Lake Bluff, Ill. The field included full teams from 10th-ranked LSU, 15th-ranked North Carolina, 22nd-ranked Arizona, along with Northwestern, Texas and SMU. Individuals represented Air Force, Army, Florida A&M, Howard, Livingstone and Navy.

Deegan and his teammates opened the season Sept. 8-10 at the Folds of Honor Collegiate where they placed 13th. Leading the way for the Mids was Deegan who finished just outside of the top 20 with a 6-over par 219 (72-77-70) among a start-studded field.

Navy returns to action this weekend when it plays host to The Goat at the Naval Academy Golf Club. The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Saturday at 8:30 am with a shotgun start.
