GLEN COVE, N.Y. //
Jack Tarzy (Sr / Medford, N.J.) shot a 4-under par 66 in the final round of the Nassau Intercollegiate to clinch co-individual medalist honors, while the Navy men's golf team tied host LIU and Iona for eighth at the Nassau Intercollegiate held Monday and Tuesday at the Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y.
Tarzy, who entered the day six shots back from the leader, is believed to be the first Navy golfer to earn medalist honors in three-consecutive tournaments (The Goat, Commander-In-Chief's Cup, Nassau Intercollegiate). The three wins by Tarzy this season are the most by a Navy golfer in a season since Billy Hurley won six tournaments his senior year in 2003-04. He is the first Navy golfer to win three tournaments over a career since Charlie Musto won three - 2 in 2017-18 and 1 in 2019-20.
As a team, Navy struggled to find its way in the opening rounds and sat in 11th going into the final 18 holes. The Mids muscled their way through Tuesday's final round, posting the third-lowest score of the day with a 12-over par 292 to catapult into a three-way tie for eighth alongside LIU and Iona. Navy completed the tournament with a 5-over par 895 (299-304-292) to post its third-consecutive top-10 finish of the fall campaign.
Tarzy, who shot a 2-over par 212 (73-73-66), shared individual medalist honors with Utah Valley's Paxton Maxwell (69-73-70). Tarzy trailed Rhode Island's Aidan O'Donovan by six strokes going into the final round, as O'Donovan shot par in both rounds on Monday (140), while Tarzy shot a pair of 73s. Tarzy slowly cut into the lead and on his final hole of the tournament (hole 9), he drove his shot to roughly 35 feet of the hole and two-putted to make birdie to pull even with Maxwell for medalist honors.
Navy's
Ed Scott (So / Lemont, Ill.) tied for 33rd with a 17-over par 227 (75-76-76), followed by
Sebastian Alonzo (Fr / Azusa, Calif.) in 45th with a 20-over par 230 (80-77-73),
Hudson Mitchell (Fr / Pensacola, Fla.) in 53rd with a 2--over par 232 (74-79-79) and
Derek Weaver (Sr / Hackettstown, N.J.) in 53rd with a 22-over par 232 (77-78-77).
Rhode Island, meanwhile, earned the team title behind a 31-over par 871 (283-294-294) and had two players finish among the top 10. Fairfield was six strokes behind Rhode Island in second with a 37-over par 877 (290-299-288), while Army (+39, 879), Kansas City (+41, 881) and Utah Valley (+42, 882) rounded out the top five.
