ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Navy senior nose guard Landon Robinson has been named a Second-Team All-American by ESPN.
Robinson was previously named a First-Team All-American by the Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, Sports Illustrated, USA Today and Phil Steele. He also earned Second-Team All-America honors from Walter Camp and The Sporting News.
In addition, Robinson was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches and the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year.
He recorded 64 tackles, a team-high 8.5 tackles for loss, a team-high 6.5 sacks and a team-high seven quarterback hurries for the Mids this season.
Robinson and teammate Eli Heidenreich will compete in the East-West Shrine All-Star Game on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The game will be televised live on NFL Network at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT).
Navy has not had two players participate in the East-West Shrine Game since 1956, when center Wilson Whitmire and guard James Hower were selected.
Navy defeated Cincinnati, 35-13, to win the Liberty Bowl and tie the school record (2019 and 2015) with 11 victories. The win also gave Navy 21 victories over the last two seasons — the most in program history — and marked the first time the Mids have recorded back-to-back seasons with 10 or more wins.
The Mids defeated Army to win the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2012–13.
The Lambert Trophy, awarded to the top team in the East, will be announced next Wednesday at 2 p.m. If Navy wins, it would mark just the second Lambert Trophy for the program since 1963 (also won in 2015).
