Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Slate with Saturday Twinbill

Navy Faces St. Bonaventure and Saint Francis in Home-Opening Doubleheader

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – A home doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 17 kicks off the spring 2026 schedule for the Navy women's tennis team, as the Midshipmen play host to non-conference foes St. Bonaventure (0-2) and Saint Francis (1-1) at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
 
Returning to competition after a strong fall season, the Mids square off with the Bonnies at 11 a.m. before battling the Red Flash in a 2 p.m. matchup.
 
Mids in the National Rankings
Navy appeared in the national doubles rankings put out by the ITA at the end of the fall, as sophomores Peyton Amspacher-Philemon and Ji Soo Oh came in as the No. 82 doubles pairing in the ITA's final fall rankings … Amspacher-Philemon and Oh went 6-1 as a pairing this fall … Since the beginning of the 2024-25 season, the duo has posted a 12-3 career doubles record that includes a 6-2 dual-meet mark … This marks the second-straight season the Midshipmen have put a doubles team in the final fall rankings, as December 2024 saw Emily Tannenbaum and Parvathi Shanker rated 51st on the doubles list while the pairing of Tannenbaum alongside Olivia Fermo was slotted at 104th in the same rating list.
 
Previewing the Spring
The Mids are scheduled for 25 dual matches this spring, including 18 home contests and a trio of four-match homestands … Five of Navy's six Patriot League matches will take place in Annapolis, including the April 4 Star Match against Army … The Mids also play a pair of power conference opponents, making the trip to Notre Dame on Jan. 31 and then traveling to Virginia Tech for a Feb. 14 contest … The team's spring break trip will feature contests March 9-10 in Orlando, Fla., against Fairfield and UNC Asheville … The 2026 Patriot League Tournament is scheduled for April 17-19 in Lewisburg, Pa.
 
Fall Recap
After Navy claimed all three main doubles draws along with the "A", "B" and "D" singles brackets at the season-opening Moore Invitational, sophomores Molly Bellia and Emma Gu posted a 4-4 combined record at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic while freshman Nicole Fu won the "D" singles draw at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational … Going a combined 4-1 at the tournament, Olivia Fermo earned MVP honors at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic, and the next weekend saw the Mids post a 10-8 singles record at the Commander-in-Chief's Challenge … At the ITA Atlantic Regional, Fermo and Fu partnered for three-straight wins in the main draw to reach the doubles quarterfinals, becoming the first Navy pairing to reach the regional's quarterfinal round, while the duo then reached the doubles semifinals at the Patriot League's qualifying event for the ITA Conference Masters … Navy ended its fall season in style by winning 17 of its 21 combined matches at the Navy Blinds event.
 
Scouting the Mids
Leading the team with identical 13-2 singles records are junior Olivia Fermo and freshman Nicole Fu, while sophomore Emma Gu ranks second on the Mids with a 10-5 singles mark … Sophomore Grace Li is a perfect 6-0 this fall on the singles courts … Fermo and Fu have partnered to post a team-leading 10-4 doubles record … Li and freshman Anna Wiskowski have gone 4-0 as a doubles pairing so far … Overall, Fermo has 11 doubles wins this fall.
 
Navy Openers
The Mids are 11-5 in spring-opening matches, including winning their first six spring openers in program history … Navy is 11-2 when opening the spring season at home … The Mids are 14-2 in home openers overall and are 3-0 when facing St. Bonaventure in their home opener.
 
Scouting St. Bonaventure
The Bonnies enter the spring at 0-2 after fall losses to Niagara and Buffalo on Sept. 19 … Sara Montano Parada paces St. Bonaventure with a 5-4 singles record this season, while Montano Parada has partnered with Tamara Bachmann to post a team-best 3-2 doubles record … St. Bonaventure posted a 4-16 mark last season.
 
Scouting Saint Francis
The Red Flash arrive in Annapolis at 2-2 on the season, picking up a 5-2 win over Binghamton in the fall but falling to Buffalo later that same day (Oct. 19) … Helena Lynn holds a team-leading 11-6 singles record on the campaign, while Lynn has posted a 9-6 doubles mark alongside Dasha Chichkina … Sophia Cunningham and Emma Marais have also partnered for an impressive 6-1 doubles record this season … SFU ended last season with a 16-8 dual record, including a 7-1 mark in NEC action.
 
Series Histories
Navy is 12-1 in the all-time series with St. Bonaventure, winning the last 10 matches against the Bonnies and going 11-1 against the Bonnies in Annapolis … The Mids hold a 15-0 record over Saint Francis, with all 15 meetings being played on Navy's home courts … The wins over the Bonnies and Red Flash last January propelled Navy head coach Keith Puryear to his 299th and 300th career victories with the Mids.
