Wenqing Tang to Represent Navy Squash at CSA National Individual Championship

Navy sophomore squash standout Wenqing Tang (Villanova, Pa.) will compete at the 2026 College Squash Association National Individual Championship this weekend in New York City. Tang, who enters the competition having won 22-consecutive matches dating back to last season, will face Drexel's #1 player Nico Serna in the opening round which is slated for Friday at 4:10 pm at Open Squash (Financial District).

This will mark Tang's first appearance at the CSA National Individual Championship which showcases the top 56 players in the country and is the pathway to garner All-America honors. The tournament has changed its format over the years, however this year a player must win two matches in the championship bracket to garner All-America recognition. Navy's last All-American was Nils Mattsson in 2010.

Tang has been sensational for the Mids in his two seasons at the Academy, putting together a remarkable 41-4 record including a 17-0 mark this season. His last loss was against John Paul Tew of Virginia in the opening round of last year's Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship (Feb. 8). Serna, meanwhile, a senior from Bogota, Colombia, stands 1-7 this season as the Dragons' top player. His lone win came against Dickinson's Joe Smythe, while dropping matches against foes from #17 Franklin & Marshall, #8 Princeton, #1 Penn, #5 Yale, #6 Columbia, #10 Cornell and #4 Virginia.

If Tang wins his opening match against Serna, he would advance to the round of 32 where he would meet Penn's Omar Hafez (Sr / Alexandria, Egypt / 7-1 at #1) on Friday at 8:00 pm.
