Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Nine Mids Record at Least One Victory in Men’s Tennis Doubleheader Sweep

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Lachlan Buckingham won three matches on the day as the Navy men's tennis team (4-2) posted victories over Niagara (0-2) and Binghamton (1-1), Saturday at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center in Binghamton, N.Y.  The Mids, who saw nine players notch at least one win, registered 5-2 victories over both the Purple Eagles and the two-time defending Northeast Conference champion-Bearcats.

Buckingham first teamed with Jake Young for a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles against Niagara. That victory, along with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 flight by J.J. Etterbeek and Tommy Kim, gave the Mids a 1-0 lead.

Navy then won four singles matches against the Purple Eagles to emerge with the win. Young at No. 2 (7-5, 6-3), Jason Kim at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3) and Ethan Garcia at No. 5 (6-4, 6-4) all won in straight sets.  Also winning his match was Herrick Legaspi at No. 1 as he tallied a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) victory.

Buckingham and Garcia combined for a 6-2 win at the No. 2 doubles flight in the day's second match against Binghamton.  That win, however, was the lone one for the Mids in doubles as the Bearcats took the 1-0 advantage.

Tommy Kim evened the match at 1-1 when he recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.  Ayinala made the score 2-1 with his 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 flight.  The Bearcats won the No. 1 match to again tie the proceedings, this time at 2-2.  George Cutone broke the tie with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, then Etterbeek clinched the match with his No. 5 flight win by the score of 6-3, 6-2.  Buckingham closed play with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.

Navy has four home matches scheduled for this week, starting with Thursday matches against Longwood and Morgan State.
