ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's swimming and diving team totaled four event victories on day one of a two-day dual meet against Delaware, Kenyon and Princeton, Friday night at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis.
After half of the events, the Navy men's team leads Delaware, 130-56, and Kenyon, 151-35, and trails Princeton, 108-78. In the women's meet, the Mids trail Delaware, 103-83, Kenyon, 100.5-85.5, and Princeton, 135-50.
Scores from today in each of the duals carry over to Saturday's 11 a.m. session.
Winning individual events for the Navy men's team were
Ben Irwin,
Juan Mora and
Ben Denman-Grimm. Irwin posted a time of 46.86 to win the 100 back, Mora finished the 100 breast in a winning time of 52.27 and Denman-Grimm won the 50 free with his effort of 19.66.
Completing the list of winners was Navy's 400 medley relay team of Irwin, Mora, Lachlan Andrtew and Denman-Grimm as the foursome recorded a time of 3:08.41 to better the second-place Princeton time of 3:09.49.
Also for the Mids,
Gavin Green placed second to Mora in the 100 back with a time of 53.68 and
Martin Perecinsky finished in second place in the 200 free with his clocking of 1:35.59.
Lauren Walsh was the top individual event finisher for the Navy women's team as she placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.13. Finishing fourth in the same event was
Corinne Warriner with an effort of 1:02.61.
Sarah Eldridge earned fourth-place finishes in both the 400 individual medley (4:21.96) and 1000 freestyle (10:07.20), while
Clarice Spencer and
Maddie Koutavas posted fifth-place showings in the 200 fly (2:03.20) and 100 breast (1:02.93), respectively.
Additionally,
Mackenzie Kim recorded a score of 286.25 points to place third in three-meter diving.
Navy's 200 free relay team also posted a second-place finish on the day.
