Women’s Tennis Hits the West Coast for San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic

Bellia, Fermo, Lee and Pal to Represent Mids Against Fresno State, Loyola Marymount and San Diego

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Continuing a busy four-week stretch, the Navy women's tennis team is set to send four players to San Diego, Calif., this weekend to take part in the sixth annual San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic.
 
Seniors Olivia Fermo, Julia Lee and Manci Pal and junior Molly Bellia will play in singles and doubles action Friday-Sunday, Oct. 2-4 at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Complex at the University of San Diego, while the Navy men's team will also be sending four players for the men's side of the tournament.
 
The Tournament
The Midshipmen are joined at the event by the host Toreros, who ended last season ranked No. 53 by the ITA, as well as Fresno State and Loyola Marymount on the women's side … Women's action on Friday begins at 3:00 p.m. ET (12 noon PT) with the first round of doubles, followed by the first round of singles matches, as the Mids will face off against USD … Pitting Navy against LMU, a second round of doubles matchups will be at 10:30 a.m. ET (7:30 a.m. PT) on Saturday and another set of singles matches right after … Sunday's schedule is slated to have Navy play doubles and then singles against Fresno State at 10:30 a.m. ET (7:30 a.m. PT) to finish off the event.

Highlighted by freshman Mary Cain Webster reaching another singles finals match, a short-handed Navy team wrapped up its second-straight home weekend at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational on Sunday … Navy had representatives in three different singles semifinals as well as in each semifinal of the "B" doubles draw … After capturing her singles draw the previous weekend at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational, Webster pulled out three more singles wins in the "C" singles draws before falling in the championship … Junior Molly Bellia also put together a strong weekend by reaching the semifinal round of both the "C" singles and "B" doubles draws.
 
San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic History
The inaugural San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic in 2021 saw Jillian Taggart, Katreina Corpuz, Meghana Komarraju and Kacey Moore combine to record a perfect 6-0 record in doubles matches along with posting a 7-5 mark in singles competition … 2022 featured Emily Tannenbaum, Sylvia Eklund, Casey Accola and Stella Ribaudo finishing the weekend with an 8-4 record in singles play and a 4-2 mark in doubles competition, with Tannenbaum garnering Tournament MVP … The third annual SDVTC had Tannenbaum, Ribaudo, Samantha Johns and Sia Chaudry post a 10-8 overall record for the weekend, tallying a 6-6 mark in singles competition and 4-2 mark on the doubles courts, as Chaudry was given the SDVTC Sportsmanship Award while Tannenbaum received the SDVTC Leadership Award … The 2024 event saw Tannenbaum pace the Mids with a combined 6-0 record on the weekend and pick up the tournament's Most Valuable Player honors for the second time in three years … In the 2025 SDVTC, Olivia Fermo paced Navy by going 4-1 over a combined five matches and taking home tournament MVP honors, while Anna Jordaan collected the SDVTC Sportsmanship Award.
