OXFORD, Pa. // The Navy men's golf team turned in a 10-over par 298 in the final round of the Blue Hen Intercollegiate played Tuesday at Wyncote Golf Club to finish the 14-team, 54-hole tournament in third place. The Mids shot a 16-over par 880 (295-287-298) over the course of two days, leaping past Villanova (+17, 881) in the final round to secure the top-three finish in Navy's fall finale.
Sorting Out the Finish
Fairleigh Dickinson captured the tournament title by 26 strokes over the host Delaware Blue Hens. FDU led from start to finish, as the Knights shot the two lowest rounds of the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 9-under on Monday. The Knights shot a 1-under par 289 in the final round to conclude the tournament with a 17-under par 847. Delaware, meanwhile, shot a 9-over par 873 (292-285-296) to finish second and held off the Midshipmen by seven strokes.
FDU sophomore Pietro Maria Piccoli took individual medalist honors with his 11-under par 205, while teammate Will McKernan placed second with a 5-under par 211.
Navy Notes
The Midshipmen were led by freshman
Elijah Estonilo (Allen, Texas) who tied for eighth with a 1-over par 217 (73-70-74). Placing just two strokes outside of the top five, it marked his best finish at Navy in a tournament of this size.
Finishing just a stroke behind Estonilo in 11th place was
Danny Auffant (Sr / Bellevue, Wash.), who completed the tournament with a 2-over par 218 (71-73-74). Like Estonilo, Auffant shot a 2-over par 74 in Tuesday's final round and included four birdies.
Sebastian Alonzo (Azusa, Calif.) pushed up four spots in the final standings to place 34th with a 9-over par 225 (76-73-76), while
Josh Durthaler (So / Dunwoody, Ga.) birdied two of his final three holes to shoot his low round of the tournament and jump 16 spots in the standings to tie for 41st with an 11-over par 227 (75-78-74).
Hudson Mitchell (So / Pensacola, Fla.) rounded out play for the Mids with a 16-over par 232 (76-71-85) to place 56th.
Logan Francis (Fr / Annville, Pa.), who played as an individual in the tournament, posted a 10-over par 226 (70-79-77) to finish 37th.
