Navy Posts Home Men’s Tennis Win Over Saint Joseph’s

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy (8-6) men's tennis team registered a 6-1 victory over Saint Joseph's (3-7) at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis and lost a 7-0 decision to NJIT (3-0) at the Naimoli Family Athletic & Recreation Center in Newark, N.J., on Friday.

Three Mids won a pair of matches against the Hawks.  The match began with Navy sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.  The first match to finish was at the No. 3 flight where Aniketh Ayinala and Steve Nguyen defeated Jakob Gaudreau and Sehaj Pawar by the score of 6-1.  George Cutone and Tommy Kim then combined for a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 flight over Othman Bezzaz and Ernesto Ruy.  Jason Kim and Charlie Spencer defeated Damir Abdusamadov and Santiago Valle, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles in the last match left on the courts.

Jason Kim made the score 2-0 when he posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Pawar at No. 5 singles.  The score became 3-0 when Cutone defeated Ruy, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 3 flight.  Aniketh Ayinala tallied the match-clinching fourth team point when he won his No. 2 match against Abdusamadov by the score of 6-2, 6-2.

Navy's remaining two points were won by Nguyen as he posted a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) over Bezzaz at No. 4 singles and Tommy Kim with a 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) victory at the No. 6 flight against Gaudreau.

The Highlanders, who with today's result raised their record to 40-10 since the start of the 2023-24 season, won two of the three doubles matches against Navy.  The lone win for the Mids came at the No. 2 flight where Herrick Legaspi and Jake Young defeated Riccardo Campagnola and Maxime Hankins by the score of 7-5.

NJIT then won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Navy will play host to Hampton (9 a.m.) and Villanova (noon) Saturday in Annapolis.
